Best L4 mission ship for Gallente space

Coming back to eve after around 6-7 years. A friend played my main for a while after I left, and I'll be getting her back. He has her in a Golem right now and was working the Gallente L4 missions with this setup. But this was in 2007-2008.

Anyway my main has just over 40 million SP and several billion to her name.

I'd like to do some level 4's for a while to get back into the hang of the game. With 40 mil SP I have most everything trained PvE / PvP wise from skills back in 2006-2007 ish. This was before many of the tech 2 ships were around however. So except for some of the newer ships, I can probably pilot about anything, and with some training - pretty much anything. Have all races / all weapon types: missiles / hybrids / energy weapons. Frig / Cruiser / BC / BS. Got Marauders V for example. Don't mind training whatever I'm missing.

So having said that, what ship is best for level 4s in Gallente space? Not looking to spend much more than say 1.5 billion total to buy and outfit it (although you can count the isk from selling the Golem towards that). The golem setup isn't the best. Some faction stuff, but nothing amazing.

Thanks!

Tengu if you're concerned with ISK/Hr. Otherwise you can save the ISk and just do them with any BS that you have skills for.

A person that does'nt use his intelligence is no better than an animal that does'nt have any and thus are steaks on the table by choice and consent.

Since you're already good with Marauders (and T2 guns I presume) I could recommend a Kronos. Not THE best ISK/hr but not far behind. And while it doesn't show at the first sight, very, very versatile.

Also I've been told that Machariel makes great all-around mission runner.

Tengus are so 2011.

Shield tanked Navy Dominix with 3 drone damage amps. Sentry drones and a full rack of 425mm railguns will melt anything.

Personally, I prefer the Dominix. Navy Issue is even better, but I suppose for you with Marauders V maybe Kronos since you can loot on the go to boost your ISK/hr.

Domi is your fav? Mind if I ask what kind of fit... Because missions take forever in my domi compared to my machariel...

shield tanked domi with rails and MFS/drone damage augmentors in the lows performs quite nicely. i prefer the tengu though; retard-proof tank and fast align times are the cherry toppings of mission running.

I should buy an Ishtar.

I second this. For at least 2 of 3 high slots, add a salvager II and a tractor II (44 km range). That way you can salvage and loot the battleship wrecks as you go. For the third open high slot, I use a remote armor repper for my drones.

Actually I *don't* loot/salvage on-the-go :) but I still recommend the Kronny. Very easy to fit and quite forgiving in handling, while having respectable performance.

Those would be my choices these days. I'd probably stick with the Mach if I could only have one simply because it is so little fuss. Accept mission, undock with PP, EMP, and Fusion in the hold and plan to be able to tank whatever comes. Blockade is still annoying (consider swapping for a MWD). Arties for Scarlet.

Mach with 3 or 4 t2 sentries. I use 3 because I run in minmatar space and I swap between warriors and hobbies. I have run with it in gallante space tho and its still tops.

Appreciate the replies.

No one mentioned the Scorpion Navy Issue, CNR or even the Golem I have. I see them mentioned a lot in other threads. But no mention here. Wonder if that is because no one read my OP and assumed I could only fly Gallente ships.

I can fly _everything_ except for the brand new ships that came out in the last couple years, but even for those, I'm probably no further than 30 days out and with pretty much all support skills maxed.

Think I'm going to avoid the Tengu simply due to sheer cost and that devs have mentioned t3 cruisers getting changed in the future.

Looked at the Kronos and maybe things have changed a lot over the last 7 years, but back then the Megathron wasn't really a great ship. You could gank it out for pvp, but it was kind of an all or nothing. I first went Gallente early on, maxed hybrid / gunnery / drones before any other race / weapon and i tried using the Megathron for pve and it was just terrible. Raven was leagues better. For PvP - I much preferred the Domi for many reasons over the Megathron. I just don't really see what about the Kronos is makes it the best lvl 4 PVE ship.

Looking at it: 1 extra rail gun, better armor resists (ok this is decent at least), less drones??? (sad), slightly faster, and a lot more cargo space. Maybe good enough, but since the Mega was never a great PvE ship to begin with (from my experience 7 years ago) - Hrmm not seeing a strong conviction here...

Mach: Have always heard good things about the Mach. Even 7 years ago.

Dominix: Was terrible at PvE 7 years ago. But apparently they changed sentry drones and they are amazing now... Interesting. I'll have to look into the Dominix Navy Issue some more. Might watch some videos to see how they changed sentry drones for PvE. My concern would be how do the sentry drones deal with frigates? Back in the day drones were not good for PvE since the rats ate them for breakfast. Had to baby sit them all the time, and they died fast.

I fly the SNI and CNR but not Golem, I was including every ship when I voted for Mach. The Navy Domi is a serious player now with the drone upgrades.

Those are the 2 ships I fly in tandem for missions nowadays, Mach + Navy Dominix. The drone damage augmenters are off the hook. The Domi is a nurse and still packs well over 700 DPS.

Its expensive to fit it for shields, but I spent just as much on the Machs shields + however much more the hull is.

The Vindicator is also a decent choice, but IMHO second to the Mach even in Gallente space.

The kronos is much better than the mega - lots of PG and cap. Can fit a solid tank and have a couple of damage mods. Serpentis are Kin/Therm which means you actually get 3 damage mods with a Kronos. For a while I was running L4s in my Kronos with a corp buddy in a Tengu. I was popping the rats a lot faster than he was. The salvage high value stuff as-you-go is a means to mitigate losses due to ninjas.

The main issue I hear with a Golem is that the rat defender missiles can really mess with your DPS as one defender effectively takes out 25% of your DPS.

Domi is really solid with the new drone mods.
