Scenario 1 - You open fire, kill the cata, cata pilot comes back in something bigger and kills you.
Scenario 2 - You open fire, don't kill the cata, he warps off then comes back in something bigger and kills you
Scenario 3 - You open fire, don't kill the cata, his buddy warps in and reps him and you eventually die to a cata...
Scenario 4 - You open fire, kill the cata and imediately go back to station to wait out aggro. He comes back in bigger ship and is frustrated as you are not there so he steals all the loot and if there are any triggers in the mission he triggers them so the mission is harder for you. If there is a key item he steals it and ransoms it to you.
Scenario 5 - you get a pvp ship then come back and open fire, his buddies warp in with RR and you die.

There are more, but you get the idea.

Scenario 6:

You lay a massive trap for the ninja's and have alot of corpies warp in when the ninjas' least expect it.

Hilarity ensues.

Cool

Everything in EVE is a trap.

And if it isn't, it's your job to make it a trap...:)

1. Quieter system is a good start. Especially since the agents were all normalized, there is little need to mission in a highly populated system.

2. Fit a salvager / tractor and salvage / loot the battleships as you go. Marauders are great for this. Domi a very good choice too.

3. NEVER engage unless you are PvP fit - web, scram and omni-tank for starters. A frigate will take down a battleship. Just look at the battleclinic killboard. Had a corp mate lose a raven to a frigate in a situation like this.

4. Keep D-scan open and current. Keep an eye on scan ships in the system. If you see a single combat probe on d-scan, leave the mission. If you see 4 on d-scan, they likely already have you pinpointed so go grab a PvP ship or your salvager.

5. Don't frett too much. This is a game. Everybody gets ninja'd. This just happened to be your turn...

Move somewhere quieter.

Don't shoot him because he probably has a PvP ship ready to rip you open docked somewhere nearby.

I had some dude Warp into a level 4 I was running in my drake Sunday night.

The wrecks were spead over a couple of hundred KM so I was watching him fly all the way over to one of the wrecks and start his salvagers going, then shooting the wreck he was at.

I spent a good 10 miniutes following him about killing my own loot.

I think he may have become frustrated.

He/She sent me this email

Have they fixed it yet so that a remote repper of a red becomes a red as well? Or will you get Concorded for attacking the repper?

The R/R turns red.

OP, try missioning in a cruiser. You will rarely get scanned down (it can happen, but very unlikely). Ninjas mostly look for BS pilots, as they are easier to scan.

My main runs lvl 4s around Dodixie and has had this problem a few times recently. Most of the time I just cannot be bothered to salvage so when a ninja has appeared I've abandoned the wrecks and told them to help themselves.

On occasions they've been polite & responded with a thank you but when I get one who doesn't I try to time the mission rat spawns so that when the next wave comes I gtfo, let the thief have the agro and then return a bit later when they've cleared off.

Or you could give up on salvaging and looting. Some people have suggested that doing another mission (or even blitzing them) is as profitable as cleaning up afterwards if not more so.
There is even a Corp (I don´t recall the name, though) that pays you for mission bookmarks and its wrecks, so even more profit for you, if you choose this path.

But yes, if you insist on salvaging, move elsewhere,

Dodi and its surrounding systems apparently are a hotbed of ninjas, I did some missioning elsewhere for a year or so and never even met one, in my first week in Dodixie I got visited twice (though at that time, I didn´t care about the wrecks anymore)...
