A new Space MMO is going into closed Beta this August. The game has been around for years in Portuguese but has been completely remade for English. The game seems to follow EVE style philosophy but Free 2 Play.

Taikodom - Massively - VB

- Taikodom, a free-to-play massively multiplayer online sci-fi game that has been in development for six years
- The game is a cross between EVE Online, Risk, and a shooter/action game
- Has some incredible first-person space-vehicle battles, combined with the capability to build large strategic battleships.
- Players will be able to not only engage in some incredible head-to-head combat in space, but also control vast territory and engage in interstellar politics.”
- MMOs going forward, and Taikodom is spearheading this effort. The game will launch on PC and Mac this year.
- Android, iPad, and Wii versions are definitely on the cards, with Wii U support also possible. Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 iterations will depend on whether market trends.

Screenshots: One, Two, Three, Four, Five.

So real competition or Black Prophecy House of Cards?

You'd think CCP would have better lawyers

One can also assume that if they're talking about a srs spaceship bsns game, then go on to talk about Wii and iPad versions, they're absolutely doomed to fail

Why. Do you think the 5000 WoW Clones are illegal as well and Blizzard just didn't have good enough lawyers.

One can not assume that at all.

Should try hearing it in an Australian court, CCP and Blizzard would have an easier time with it

edit: Probably an obscure reference for foreigners - The song had a section that bore a passing resemblance to a well known children's song, one of the types sung in kindergarten.
That game has a bit more than a passing resemblance to EVE, it looks like a flat out copy with a UI reskin. I'm fairly sure I've even seen footage of it being passed off as EVE gameplay in an WoT advertisement
double edit: Scratch that, looked up the vid and it doesn't match the screnshots up the top

wow a band sued over a single audio track that was part of a greater work. Interesting link to the wiki there but also shows how flawed copyright law is.

EVE is like swimming on a beach in shark infested waters,  There is however a catch...  The EVE Beach you also have to wonder which fellow swimmer will try and eat you before the sharks.

I played that years ago, was pretty decent but rough around the edges

Also the Portuguese put me off alot.

I'm looking forward to it, has potential, unlike 99% of Space MMO's that stray into EvE Online area.

Tbt most consoles dont handle crossovers with PCs/macs to well, in past consoles always ended up lagging outt he whole game not being able to keep up with the amount computers could.

so tbt dont think ipad etc support will get there tbt.

Does it have a single persistent server, with a constant PVP oriented game-play with the real loss of player assets? If not its not a competitor to EVE.

Maybe it will be an somehow OK twitch based shooter, but tbh unless it does something radically new and exiting in terms of game-play and physics (I am looking at you, ****** underwater-but-in-space-physics), I simply see it as a waste of my time to even try it. The ships looks too much anime for my liking as well, but that is a personal taste.

Meh...

I'm still waiting/hoping/dreaming that Infinity: Quest for Earth ever gets past vapour-ware whilst remaining true to the devs' vision of the ultimate huge sandbox. (think EVE-O, only bigger. Much, much bigger.)

As well, free-to-play implies pay-to-win, and that terrifies me, to be quite brutally honest.

E:

Woah, that station/hangar view, and those engine-trails, those aren't even remotely EVE-likeUgh

Star Wars: the Old Republic may not be EVE. But I'll take the sound of dual blaster-pistols over "NURVV CLAOKING NAOW!!!11oneone!!" any day of the week.

I would love if new joystick combat ships* or current bombers* were in eve. Active piloting, but turn based lock on attack would keep the eve 1 second tick in place. Would be fun as hell if eve combat and joystick combat were merged, even if its not ccp to do it 1st. I love eve for the battleship combat, other games your fighter sized all the time, boring.

But both? My god if someone did that.

I used to play Battlestar Galactica Online.

Flyable Ships.

Colonial

Strikes 1, 2, 3, 4
Escorts 1, 2, 3, 4
Lines 1, 2, 3, 4
Carriers 1

Cylon

Strikes 1, 2, 3, 4
Escorts 1, 2, 3, 4
Lines 1, 2, 3, 4
Carriers 1

Honestly I love the ship models and the flight style but the grind is terrible and the game is beyond pay 2 win.

No Joystick but it is a very strange mix of Twitch Based Combat and EVE like tactical gameplay which I found more fun then EVE's flying style. The ships pretty much go from Fighter, Destroyer, Battleship, Carrier and they have 2 Capital Ships you can fly for an hour. Cylon / Colonial.

It is a browser game but the graphics are good.

I wouldn't go back but you should give it try.

To me this game (Taikodom) is not like Eve, but more in the "Jumpgate" philosophy, as you "fly" your ship. What I wonder though, is there a cockpit view? No point for me to fly my ship if I see it from behind...

I liked jumpgate for its near newtonian physic and the fact you really fly your ship, you were a pilot and not a ship captain...

But cannot find the cockpit view option...

I have to try it with a joystick as well, no point in flying a ship with the mouse ^^

Looks more like Vendetta Online than EVE Online.

Oh I dunno, a spaceship mmo on the Wii sounds pretty fun, although I'm not sure how well the hardware could support a truely massive mmo experience.

Wii U kinda feels like an upgrades Wii rather than a new system to me, although finally having HD graphics like it's competitors did a generation ago will be nice. Roll

You're unfair ;) Wii U changes a lot. Sure it has Wii compatibility, but it has as well HD graphics, and a new way of gaming with the new touchscreen controller.

If you say Wii U is an upgraded wii, then Xbox 360 is an upgraded Xbox, and PS3 is an upgraded PS2 ^^

Yep, the physics in Jumpgate were great. I wonder what happened to Jumpgate: Evolution. I'm guessing it's still stalled out in production.
