Here's an incredibly interesting interview with the president of Sony Online Entertainment, who also happens to be an avid Eve player, with his thoughts on the sandbox and the future of Eve. Enjoy!

TheMittani.com scores another big win, securing an interview with the SOE president! Clearly, TM is seen as the chief representative of EVE's playerbase. Smile

Wondering if the fact this is on the goon news site may have any negative impact on the journalistic integrity of the article. Well atleast it's not just more nullsec crap.

I think he's right about player created content being the wave of the future. For current themeparks, the competitive gaming crowd devours expansions and content within days. I think there was a level 80 GW2 player within 48 hours.

It must be a real struggle to keep people interested and there's only soo many time-sinks a person is willing to go through.

Fortunately I don't think the majority of the gaming community is that "hardcore".

Very nice little interview there, this makes me even more interested in Planetside knowing that they actually have a pretty intelligent guy at the helm.

…then again, Smedley was in CFC. That would also explain the “industry connection”. Blink

This is true. I for one- like having options in gaming. I've played just about every MMO that's out there now and grown bored with them, gone back, grown bored, gone back. Eve seems to be just a little more dynamic than any of those other games. Primarily because of what the players are doing.

It's hard enough to force myself to read a post by you, but by starting a post with "TheMittani.com" definitely makes sure I don't continue reading.

Ah well now it makes sense, unfortunately I think this information may influence my perspective towards SOE just a bit.

Smedley started out in Eve University. Well, started and stopped a bunch of times before finally "getting" it after joining Eve Uni. The current belief is that he's in TEST; safely anonymous. I just love the fact that industry dudes actually play the games they make.

I suppose. I just remember him saying that he was bumming around oop north and fighting alongside the goons at FF, so it could have been me jumping to conclusions.

Yes but when it's made public that the CEO of a major gaming division plays for one of the troll alliances in EVE Online how can that not impact one's perspective on the corporation they represent?
