disregarding tracking, you still do ~80% of your paper dps at optimal +1/2 falloff. for the mach that would be 800dps at 40km (with phased plasma). i didn't run the numbers but my guess is that guristas and serpentis have a high enough EM resistance to offset the nightmare's high optimal advantage.

Actually, I just ran the numbers and 1.1k DPS with MF outdamages 800 DPS of PP against Serp and Guristas. The reason being that MF is over 40% Therm damage. After running the damage profiles of the two ammos through my effective DPS calculator 1.1k DPS of MF comes out to 644 DPS against Serp and 588 against Guristas. 800 DPS of PP comes out to 554 and 557 DPS respectively.

Just throwing the raw numbers out there for you.

hm, this is pretty interesting. on the other hand, if we go with 1.1k dps for the nightmare, we should also start off with at least 1.1k for the mach (with similar skills and equip, the mach usually has more paper dps than the nightmare) . but even then, the mach would only scratch 600 vs serp. and come out slightly ahead against guristas.
on the other hand, 40km is the exact sweet spot for the nightmare. the closer or farther the rats are, the better the mach will perform relatively speaking.

edit: then again, you can still switch to xray for a full ~800 dps out to ~70km. at that point the AC mach is hopelessly outgunned, even gainst angels.

I should buy an Ishtar.

I completely agree. The advantage is to the NM at larger ranges and to the Mach at shorter ranges. The effective DPS breakeven points between the two ships is when the mach does 900 DPS for Guristas and 1k DPS for Serp. Of course, none of this takes into account tracking or any other factors, this is just raw DPS vs the rats' tanks.

As i see from everybody's post the NM seems to be kicking ass for me where i'm at. And it's actually cheaper than the mach (talking to best fit vs best fit) if i'm not wrong. long range pve would be perfect for me, so i think Nightmare will actually do for me

Whatever you do, get T2 guns eventually.

Always laugh when I see a 5b+ fit with faction guns.

How much herp could a herp derp derp if a herp derp could herp derp.

There are good reasons to use faction guns on the Nightmare

Only 1.. .to save cap...

Depending on skills, you get 40ish more dps with multi with t2 guns and lvl4 spec. When you shooting beyond optimal you get MUCH better dps with T2 ammo. If you switch to gleam\conflag for bigger ships closer than 20km you get a HUGE dps boost.
If you not using the ships and its fits to thier potential.. why bother..

back when I first got into domi I used everything T1 and it was way better than anything I've had before that - that's why you should bother - silly perfectionists - if there was no room for improvement why bother is the real question?

As for nm and T2 guns - sure if you use pulse go right ahead and invest the training to get t2 guns, if you're using tachs however you save about 20 energy x4 each shot with the navy version so about 70ish energy every 6.7 seconds.

Also with the nm you will use 90% of the time IN MF - you get about 50ish km optimal and that's within most missions fighting ranges.

One reason I might come up with for using t2 tachs is doing incursions and being the sniper guy or of course the price of navy guns.
