Walking in Ships

This seems like a good idea. The "capsule" idea could be reworked too; say, you don't need a capsule to transfer conciousness, but it's embedded in every capsuleer.

Also, I don't mean crew micromanagement, like feeding them and stuff. But what this will do is that it will add a level of immersion beyond what Captain's Quarters and Walking in Stations could ever do. Not only would this bring life to battles, but it would revitalize normally "boring" jobs like making 40-jump round trips.

Another thing to think about; what if you could grab a friend and board the ship together? That would just add even more immersion. Endless possibilities, minigames could be implemented virtually anywhere, too.

Is EVE as stands that boring to you? Maybe it is just because I'm new but it strikes me that you don't need silly minigames to make this interesting, all you need is capsuleers in space, and that is provided. The crew you're talking about would be replaced everytime a ship was blown up and a casuleer needs to be in a capsule to survive so I don't personally see a problem. I'd like to walk in stations, that is cool. But walking in ships is ********.

Soli Deo gloria.

I think "Walking in Ships" would be revolutionary. It's obviously too complex to create or handle with current graphics technology, but think about it...

You get to walk around in your ship.

Here's a few examples:

You see your crew thrown back against the wall as an all-powerful artillery shell tears through the armor. As you hit structure, you see the internal part of your ship catch fire, your crew struggling to get to their escape pods as you stay in the ship until the very end... no one survives...

You just bought a brand new Titan, teeming with life and hundreds of thousands of people aboard. You look down from the upper floors of the Titan and see thousands of people hustling and bustling, making the ship battle-ready, and making everything as perfectly calibrated as can be... scientists calculating jump portal sizes, engineers tweaking the guns to be completely accurate. You look out the window and see your whole fleet, hundreds of frigates and ships alongside yours as you head into battle.

You board your Rifter with 5 crew. The crew is small and silent- they all know that the survival rate on this mission will be low. Within seconds of undocking in nullsec, the ship is blasted into smithereens by a nearby Myrmidon. Having the durability of a Minmatar ship, your graphics card starts to smoke under the strain and catches fire.

Far off in the future, but something to think about... this would really add life to the game, especially during boring 20-jump long trips through the vast emptiness of space.

Yeah, because "Walking in Stations" was such a good direction for the game... Roll

Besides, I think I would rather be piloting my ship than playing Sims with the crew.

Speaking seriously for a moment -- the "walking in stations" idea is great if and only if they can cook up gameplay that's meaningful and risky around it.

Let's be honest -- the excitement in EVE centers around the feeling of being, to some degree or another, unsafe when undocked. Unless you bring that into the station, it'll just be dressing up your doll in your Aurum gear.

Edit: I've decided I'll wear a Quafe t-shirt once my killboard efficiency goes positive. Cheer for me!

I'm sure this has been stated already but

1. you're suspended in a pod, you effectively ARE the ship as far as your senses are concerned

2. you don't have a crew either, your thoughts control everything on that ship.

2/ ==> Yes, but now tell me what the hell all those tiny lights scattered all around our ships are for ?

here one example

a / we have effectively humans on board (or Klingons, Romulans, Jovians, PS3 consumer with gamepad hands whatever)

b / we have bots, relaying effetively instantly our orders, but those lazy basterds don't have Night-Vision Lenses.

If EVE Walking On Ships extension comes one day, it should be alongside with EVE Invasions

EVE Invasions patch note :

You have a carrier or better ?
Communications Skill L5?

you can now hire military squads**, to protect your ship from nasty Foreign Invasions while trying to repair your Hull Integrity damages.
Board your Titan's opponent with a 10 men squad, defeat the enemy and take control of the ship !

* : Carriers needs a active eve premium account and 150days of dedicated skills training.
** : Require a PC or Mac Core i quad or more, OpenGL3 compatible graphic card, a KEYBOARD and a MOUSE !

This would be wrong; in Caldari ships I believe you have holograms that project the captain around, but I know 100% for sure that you do have a crew...

But it seems that everyone will hate Walking in Ships, so I guess some moderator can just end this thread here.

This idea has some merit, but would have to be done carefully. It would be frustrating or even unwise to walk around your ship while in space, in an asteroid belt. Ready to be pirated. According to the game lore, if you're not in a pod and get blown up that's it: you're dead, unless the capsuleer in question has set up a "soft clone" contract. While this wouldn't have any effect on the casual player of the game, it would cancel out any immersion that some people seem to want to gain with this.

So simply allow it while docked, only. This would give CCP a much more controlled environment in which to program this all out, and might be a good stepping stone for walking in stations. It would also allow them to test the redering of multiple avatars by way of introducing ship crew NPCs that you can interact with, along with all the other doodads they intend to introduce in the stations (such as tactical maps, etc). Additionally, it would be cool to see a physical impact on the interior of your ship when you fit different modules.

...Then you die ? Honestly i love this idea , but i just don't see it happening in space , tbh i think walking in station should have been this instead of a small room.

I cant wait until the time that when I kill a Avatar and it breaks in half, little tiny crewmen begin spilling out like ants in a cup of boiling water.
