So when is CCP going to fix the fleet system?

Rather than make the usual "cloaky campers suk"/"nerf ecm/tech moons print isk thread, I thought I'd bring up a serious issue.

So fleets are very useful. Most large groups of players use them all the time. In fact in nullsec, it's mandatory to be in your alliances' fleets at all times. However fleets come with a major problem:

There is a "free move" feature, but this "free move" apparently does not apply to the wing commander positions. Why is that? Surely free move should mean free move. Certainly a player with enough skill to command a wing should be allowed to take charge of a wing without the blessing of the (usually AFK) fleet boss? I don't understand why CCP would choose to restrict movement at the wing level. Disruptive behavior by unscrupulous players would be policed rather quickly by alliance/corp members so surely that can't be the reason.

So what usually happens now is - unless you happen to make the alliance fleet yourself, you have to grovel so that the fleet boss promotes you as wing. Every single time you leave and re-join the fleet. Of course the fleet boss could be busy. Or he could be AFK. Now a quick answer would be "make sure your fleet boss is never AFK", to which I answer oh yeah? What about when the fleet boss gets dropped by the server and the boss function is handed over by the system to an AFK player?

I really don't see the usefulness of this "feature". It hinders much more than it helps. If you want to make sure only responsible people get into wing command positions then only allow players with wing command skill to fill them. But please please please CCP, fix this issue as it's a daily pain in the backside.

I'm sorry you lost my interest and probably the majorities interest when you said "In fact in nullsec" Lol

Any spelling, grammatical and punctuation errors are because frankly, I don't care!!

That's too bad because your short attention span prevents you from reading about an issue that probably affects people in high sec as well.

That's nice I'm not a hi-sec dweller.

Don't use fleets in low sec as well? Tell me what is your actual point in posting in this thread? Just shtposting, or do you have a point to make?

Easy answer: wing commanders can warp 50 people. As an FC you dont want any monkeys in that position, thats why it is not effectd by free move.

Sorry, but your "issue" is a "feature". This being stated, improving the mechanic (i.e. let only Wing Command V dudes join this position etc.) would need to open a thread in F&I.

Don't be scared, because being afk is not a crime.

Just ship toasting Lol
But as it is more of a Features and Ideas post in GD I thought it was fair game.

They could make it so only people with the wing commander skill trained could fill/move into those positions?
(likewise for the other two boosting positions in the fleet)

Then you need to make sure you don't have monkeys in your alliance.

Also, this is a complaint about fleets as they are today, not a proposal for a new "feature"

Then there should be another selection to allow wing commanders to take wing command positions, in standing fleets it's often essential to have wing commanders in the slots for boosting purposes.

Maybe a Free Move settings box that a fleet boss can set, what hireachial positions can be filled.
