POS Sentry guns and losing Security Status

So, let's suppose I have a POS set up in a low-sec system. I want it to be well defended, so I jam a bunch of hardeners on it with a few dozen guns and ECM and neut batteries. Following so far? Now, for the defense options, I set it to "Attack if Security Status is lower than 10.0" (yes, that's positive).

Now here's my question: Will I lose sec status if the POS guns attack someone? And if so, who would lose it?

POSes will not go GCC.

So they won't shoot anyone who is not a legal target (Wardec, GCC, Aggro counter, etc.).

So, even if the tower is set to attack anyone (+10.0 sec status or lower), it won't attack? Well....that's interesting...

The only settings you should ever use are:

  • Attack if at war
  • Attack if standing less than 0.1

In lowsec, everyone not in the corp / alliance is a valid target with these settings.

The tower will be the aggressor, so it would take any standings hit, which means nothing.

The tower will always defend itself regardless of these settings.

What about if there are POS gunners manning the weapons? Do they take sec status hits individually?

Anyone warping to a moon in < 0.5 sec should expect to be a target.

Hence, I don't have moons on my GTFO overview tab.

In hisec there are fewer options, as the only valid targets are war targets, and aggressors which CONCORD will take care of anyways before they could be locked:

  • Use Alliance Standings (useless)
  • Attack if other security status is dropping (useless)
  • Attack if at war

You can't target anything other than war targets in hisec. Not even members of your own corp.

There are a number of people who used to sell WTZ bookmark packs that were almost all accurate. Except for a few that went to deathstar POSes. Then actual WTZ got introduced an there went that kb padding activity. Pirate

I suppose you could do the same with Epic Arc bookmark packs, but most people do those in frigates, so....

Anyway, my idea was for having a POS attack everything, alliance members especially :)
Let's hope my gank tower works. I'll try it on Sisi to confirm some things.
