Is EVE in maintenance mode? Lack of tangible progress is somewhat frustrating.

If you want to hang out in a bar, hang out in a bar. EVE is for flying spaceships, which you can't do every day in real life. Blink

Well, this has been one long lazy August, my guess is that now in september they will start the marketing of whatever stuff they hope to get ready for winter expansion iteration.

Anyway, as for this:

The answer is two to three years if lucky, otherwise it will never happen.

I mean, they woulda do it, and they shoulda do it, and maybe they coulda do it, but they're not doing it.

WiS is not one of the CCP Deliver's* ports of call.

So its not that CCP isn't adding anything, its that CCP isn't adding in the things YOU want which makes it in maintenance mode.

Realize that CCP is slow and has ADD when it comes to ideas. There have been many ideas over the years that where hyped up then never saw light(player shops anyone?), That doesn't mean Eve is in maintenance mode, they are still adding stuff and doing changes. I would think the recent changes to FW and additions to the UI would show otherwise. They've had only what 2 expansions since they switched directions? Give them time, or adderall.

Granted, yeah, its mostly a jaded attitude I have with CCP.

I think this would be plausible, if someone I've been gaming with for close to a decade now didn't live 2,000+ miles away. Sometimes I agree with you, James, but this is not one of those times.

At this rate though, its more productive to drive over there once a week. If only gas didn't cost so much...

Chatting is fun while holding on a titan, burning back home after a fight, hell even while mining I can understand that, but pretend drinking on a screen feeling all "connected with my buddies some of them are dudes sporting girly avatars with siege boobies" is just "questionable".

I think its more the point of the idea that was proposed and even worked on at one point than it is the social aspect at this point. They've put work into incarna and wanted to do a lot more with it, but seem to be lazy or scared of it now. I use actual chat programs to keep in touch with people I like and have met through gaming.

Do I realistically believe they will do anything with it? probably not, sadly. Doesn't mean I wouldn't like them to though. Like I said, any of the stuff in my OP, including making starbases not a complete pain in the ass would be fantastic.

So I'm not sure where you were going with that, but okay.

Eh, making something useful out of Incarna may never happen.

Compelling people to get out of their spaceship to use station services would lead to a lot of anger amongst players, so that's out of the question, which leads to the question of what Incarna is For ? The answer at present is "Not Much". There is talk of "socialising" and "roleplaying", but those have always taken a back seat to game mechanics.

Making Incarna as a "roleplaying" environment might be good for ~1000 or less players. But there are 300,000 active players. So, without a compelling game mechanics reason for Incarna, it's simply not going to happen.

There was a recent demonstration, of hilariously early development build, of exploring a space structure with a spacesuited avatar of your eve character. Which may eventually lead to something.

But at the moment, Incarna has to take a back seat, DUST takes priority.

They have to get DUST right, and integrated right, otherwise it all comes crashing down.

Just the facts.

Pfft... people have been asking CCP for years to go into 'maintenance mode' for a while and prioritize fixes before content.

And now that they have (or you perceive that they have), you want content.

This thread is a facepalm.

The fallacy here is I've (as in, just me, the player) never told CCP to go into maint mode. Where is the facepalm in seeing a bunch of great ideas get sidelined and being frustrated with it?

One of my major (and really my only really 'big' one) problem with CCP is their insistence on going into micro transactions.

Yes, others have basically whined for that for a while. I don't agree entirely with that direction. I think a bunch of crap needs to get updated and reworked and that it can be done with simply redoing it from the ground up. This would probably result in entirely new mechanics and, hopefully, content.

I for one hope CCP keeps EVE in 'maintenance mode' atleast a lil bit longer, the more balanced the game is the happier we shall be, and the more optimized and better running the game is for me, the happier I shall be.

I really hope for your and for the rest of EvE that Dust will be a succes

Bc Dust is a greater resource loss then Incarna will ever be ,if that consolecrap fails

Rebalancing does not need all of CCP devs
Making the connection between Dust and EvE does.
and Dust is a feature that a lott of the community don,t use.
that is of course an assumption ,bc i don,t have the numbers

I agree, there are loads of MMOs on the market that provide all sorts of ambulations with varying degrees of success, but hardly any that provide spaceship combat and exploration within an immense single shard universe populated by people from all over the world. If people want to run around and spam emotes at each other and chase after fancy pants there are so many other games to do that in, keep EVE about the space and the spaceships please.
