Nullsec pvp character query

Ohoy hoy!

I have two chars about the same age (roughly the beginning of the year) with about 7mill sp each, one is a minmatar specialized in frigates and smaller ships, being able to fly most t2 frigs/destros fully t2 fit. The other I went for bigger ships for missioning etc and flys caldari battleships/bc's etc.

I am about to join a nullsec alliance but can't decide which character I want to take out there, I know that drakes are very popular in big fleet ops, and would work well with ratting etc but I don't want to rule out solo/small gang pvp which the caldari character would suck at.

Any null veterans want to lend a hand deciding?

To sum it up one char is better in big ships (and can fly a SB almost) the other much better in smaller ships. I was going to go for the caldari pilot for the drake but ive noticed a huge amount of tempests being used in fleet ops on eve-kill which has completely jumbled up my plans as the drake was the key factor in the caldari pilot being chosen. Help!

Why are you asking on the forums and not your new alliance?

Most nul alliances require all active accounts to join the alliance. They tend to discourage leaving one in hi sec.

Drakes are excellent fleet ships as well as small gang/solo ships.

Bring both characters, and guide your skill plan by your alliance's primary fleet doctrines. Once you taste nullsec, you'll have pretty much no desire to go back to highsec. The freedom and chance to be a part of the game's narrative is too much to give up, and highsec is just dreadfully boring after experiencing it.

^^this, only places I've gone when heading back to empire is to tie up loose ends in low. If I should ever need to go back, I will only be going back to low

This works if you are keen on ships PvP.

For industrialists and traders it's another matter, nullsec got very little in terms of manufacturing and research slots and even less in decently visited markets.

If using drakes he is most likely joining goons. Y'know, since you are not allowed to use maelstroms any more/

You have your own logistics in there and whever is not in your alliance is not going to see "busy" hubs at all.

That's the thing, when you join an alliance, you get to be a part of said logistics team if you are so inclined.

Also, most hubs aren't restricted to alliance-mates - they tend to be fully accesible for entire coalitions, and in many cases, friendly coalitions as well. In the case of the CFC / HBC, major hubs are accessible to tens of thousands.

Drakes are only popular in fleet ops because almost all hi sec peeps have them trained for missioning. They are not, however, the ideal fleet ship.

Usually an alliance will vary between armor and shield doctrine. Bringing a drake to an armor fleet will probably get you laughed at and at worst primaried by your FC. If you don't have the skills for both drake and armor battlecruisers I suggest you spend a couple days training frigates. Fast tackle is always, always, always necessary. You can't have too much of it. Sure you'll die more often than not, but these ships are usually cheap to fit/replace. In the meantime - skill up.

Also, bring both your toons.
