Mining Ship Changes

Hello Capsuleers and Devs' alike,

I'd like to shed some thought on what I feel may have been the worst updates to date that EVE has recently let out. Before sharing my opinion - this is coming from a miner -

To start things off... in short

Ore hold; fantastic idea.
Role and Bonus changes; Alright I suppose.
Buffing the ships; bad combination with the ore hold

Reasons, for selected opinions. With the addition of the ore hold for the mining ships, a buff shouldn't have been necessary. With all due respect to those miners who have been " ganked " - I'm sure the constant petitioning of how you lost your ship probably drove CCP to this decisive act. Which has led to the downfall of ore & ice prices.

With this new buff, I feel CCP has indirectly promoted people to the use of bots and more and more miners are going afk on the fields. My question to the statement that the retriever/mackinaw was now a "Perfect" ship to "AFK" mine in.

Question: Why would you even think of playing a game if you were going to go AFK on it? There's no point.

To the buff of the ships EHP, my opinion is this is such ridicule because miners complain that they get ganked too often. I can guarantee that the miners who get ganked are often AFK or even more so - they do not tank their ships. Why should CCP make up for their faults if they refuse to pay attention to the game they're paying for.

The update has led to a dramatic decrease of ore and ice prices which many hardworking miners who do pay attention to whats happening or their tank, are now suffering the deflation. Just doesn't seem right.

Before the update there was a problem with the use of macro-bots but why throw oil to the fire? To this topic I have nothing more to add except that the people who got their wish are probably not even at their computer -

Because there hasn't already been about 100 threads about this.... Roll

And while I will not defend botters one iota, I will defend AFK mining in some cases. If you've ever ice-mined, you'll know why -- it's the most mind-bendingly boring activity you can imagine, and it takes forever. I think CCP finally realized that it was inhumane, and gave us a barge that could mine ice without requiring too much babysitting. (I'm not AFK when I'm mining, by the way, but I usually am doing something else with an alt.)

Also, the Procurer has a reason to live -- in fact, it's now a pretty pimp ship for the tanky mining ops it's intended for.

This mining barge update was one of the best changes for industry ever, IMO.

of course, I'm an ice miner too but i pay attention to my screen - and i do other things as well - but buffing the ships is the mistake - there's many ways to guard mining operations and people have done it before to avoid being ganked, the buff was just a huge promotion to crash market prices and encourage people to bot mine- we all lose in this one

regardless about how many posts there were prior to this one, I make this post now due to watching the prices of minerals and ice plummet

And! regardless to how long it takes, there are many other strenuous activities in EVE that can take awhile however the rewards for patience pay off. Now there's nothing - no reward, no patience required.

I'm not entirely convinced deflation wasn't part of the plan. In the four years I've been playing eve, prices of most ships and modules has (conservatively) risen 50%, and most of that in the last year. The actual value of isk could be measured by plex prices, in which case a year ago (maybe a little more) the price was 300 mil, now they are 500 mil.

With cheaper minerals, ships become cheaper to produce and sell. This is good for the economy of eve as a whole. You have to remember that things take time though, the changes are still quite new, so it may take several months for the rest of the market to adapt. I've already seen about a 5% drop in the prices of tier 3 battleships. In the long run, it means your mining ships get cheaper too.

tl;dr, imo deflation of mineral prices is good for the eve market.

I'm inclined to agree, even though I've been loving the sky-high pyerite prices lately.

Inflation is getting to be a problem in EVE -- not sure if it's due to PLEX or not (though I doubt it). I think FW is probably the culprit here -- the LP-to-ISK firehose has been gouting uncontrolled for a long time.

Not to be defending afk mining or mass ehp, but there were certain ships in game such as barges that were simply too fragile.

I'm probably typing on a Tablet too, which means the auto-correct is silly and fixing typos is a pain. I ain't fixing them.

I still remember 2 ISK trit, now it's almost triple that.

This was intended in part to counter-act the decrease in minerals from salvaging mission drops/drone stuff.
