Apologies if this has been suggested before.

Instead of ECM blocking out targeting, couldn't we get ECM modules to shut down/temp offline certain modules for a duration? ECM modules could then be scripted, these scripts could target certain areas of a ship; Weapon Systems Script, Propulsion Systems Script and Defensive Systems Script's.

Just a Thought.

It requires your capacitor to be at 95% to reactivate an offline Module while in space. That usually requires you to wait a little doing nothing with all modules off. During combat i doubt you can afford waiting a couple minutes doing nothing with all mods off while you wait to put your shield booster online again! It would make ECM too overpowered. Besides i believe ECM isnt too bad.
Dampening needs more attention from the dev i believe?

Besides your idea for scripts will interfere with existing mechanics. Disabling propulsion modules is the webifier / scrambler's role for example.

This is actually a good idea for fun gameplay, but bad for the market. We want to destroy enemy ships, not disable them. Blood makes the market grow.

I liked the Idea someone else had about ECM working against max locked targets so you could with enough ECM make a ship have 0 max lockable targets.

It doesn't make any sense for a jammer to jam your self repair modules.

The only thing that i have seen that makes sense is to increase the % chance of effectiveness of ECM and then make them reduce your locked targets by one or two depending on the module. This way a full rack of ECM in a Falcon would likely be able to jam out a single ship and prevent them from locking, but not always and the jammed guy would be able to lock SOMETHING more often.

The effect on ships that need to lock more than one ship (like logistics) would be hurt worse than a DPS ship that only needs to target one. Making ECM better in large fights that have logistics than in solo or small gang PVP where more than one target is usually not needed.

I don't like your idea though.
