Can stealing

What can be done about someone stealing from your jetcan? A guy canlipped me in a Iteron Mark V in a 0.9 system and blasted me.

Yes I know I can try fight to them myself. But I don't have the artillery to do it myself yet.

And how do I check the kill board to see what he hit me with?

Is it true I can only drop a secure can in 0.7 or lower systems?

You don't steal the ore back and you dont get shot. You can join a larger corp and make it scarier for him to flip you (if he flips the can your whole corp can shoot him)

yes you can try, yes you will probably lose. dont jet can mine.

under your character sheet scroll down on the left hand side and click "Combat Log." when the list on the right appears make sure you have slected "Losses" from the drop down menu at the top. Double click your loss and it will show some information about the kill.

Really though it doesn't matter, an ibis with a civilian gun probably would have killed you.

If you put stuff in a jetcan, realize that anyone can steal it..... If you can't defend it, and you want that stuff, don't put your stuff in a jetcan.....

If someone can flips you, and you want it back, you can try aligning to a station/safe, hit loot all, and immediately spam warp. To enter warp, you need to be going at 75% of your max velocity and aligned to your destination. So don't steal before you meet both of these conditions, or they might tackle you before you can warp away to safety.

When you eject something from your cargohold, you're effectively saying "I no longer want this stuff". If you don't want anyone to take it, don't throw it away. Alternatively, fit out a Procurer for drone combat & kill the frigates that can flip you.

must I rinse and repeat...don't jetcan mine in a regular belt, find a low level mission like lvl 1 and blast rats then go and mine in your mission your a lot more safer because that fat lazy fk behind the keyboard is looking for easy grief targets make that fat lazy fk work for is meal, scan hidden belts down, search your scanners for spawns that may have a belt, if you must mine in a belt mine in a procurer great tank and plenty of ore space. jetcan mining in a regular belt is like dumping and then the flies come in.

I fly around in a kitted out frigate just looking for targets like yourself. I don't really want your ore. I just want to watch your ship burn. But if there is anything left of value then I will take it as a spoil of war. So if you don't want that to happen the easy solution is to not jet can mine or only fill a can to you what your hull can hold. That way you only have 2 trips to make. 1 for you cargo hold and 1 for whatever is in the can. Anymore trips than that and you will get someone like me flying along looking for the chance to ruin your day.

Anyone who flips your can is looking for a fight. If he's looking for a fight, then you might want to consider that he thinks he'll probably win. Your optimal course of action is to ignore canflippers and skill up for a Retriever as quickly as you can. A Retriever is cheap and has a huge ore bay, meaning you won't have to mine into a jet can.

You can see what he hit you with by looking at your loss report in your Combat Log (in your character sheet). Copy & paste the loss report into word or something.

I prefer to think of undocking as a challenge to the universe, sortof like yelling out in a public space that you have a million dollars in your pockets, and seeing what happens.

If it helps, think about jet-can mining as another risk/reward tradeoff.

Reward: you can completely circumvent the problem of insufficient cargo space for your ore.

Risk: The NPCs won't help you if someone takes your stuff form an unguarded container.

Bonus: If you join a PvP or general-purpose guild, people will sometimes ask you to jet-can mine with your nice short employment history in a newbie zone specifically to honey-trap the dumber griefers as an aid to natural selection. It's kinda fun to shoot fish in a barrel sometimes.

If something is in your cargohold, short of blowing you up no one can take what is inside it. When you eject it from your cargohold, you are throwing it away. The stuff may still belong to you according to game mechanics, but you have effectively thrown that stuff away & anyone may come along & claim it as their own.

If you don't want people stealing your stuff, don't eject it from your cargohold.

This. You also often get better ore in mission deadspace pockets than you would in the belts in 0.8-1.0 systems. It' is by far the best way to jetcan mine until you have the skill and ISK to mine belts in a barge.

One tip for this is when your jetcan is full, bookmark it and close the mission down before you return with your hauler. That way you warp right in on the can, rather than having to go through acceleration gates or travel from the warp in beacon in the deadspace pocket. the asteroids vanish when you close the mission but jetcans and wrecks don't.

Also a handy salvage tip for missions.

You mean you don't already do that in Local? I must be doing something wrong...

Nope. There are all sorts of reasons why people put stuff in jetcans and the only one that involves throwing it away is when you abandon the can.

The fact that you regard it as thrown away doesn't make it so.

I've read a lot of the information these wonderful Eve players have given you and, to be honest, I don't agree with most of it.

Firstly, despite all of the negative criticism it has gotten, jet-can mining DOES work. I do it regularly. You will make much more isk jet-can mining than filling your ore hold and taking it back and forth to a station. Follow the instructions below. Most people will disagree with my methods but it works and is much more profitable than any other form of solo mining in high-sec.

1.) Find a system that has several asteroid belts.
2.) Fit a mining barge (preferably a Covetor or Hulk, but a Procuror will do). Be sure to put Warrior IIs (or their Warrior I variants) in the drone hold. The drones will keep you safe from NPC pirates.
3.) Begin mining in any of the asteroid belts. Fill a jet can with ore. (Quick tip: Ignore Omber)
4.) When the can is full, warp back to base. (Remember to bookmark the can)
5.) Return to the can in a Mammoth. The Mammoth can carry 27k worth of cargo if it is fit properly. (Mammoth Fitting Guides are easy to find.)
6.) Rinse and repeat.

You will lose cans using this method. It's normal for this to occur. However, in the long run, this method is much more profitable.

ONE LAST IMPORTANT NOTE

When a player comes to destroy your can, DO NOT ENGAGE HIM WITH YOUR DRONES. Let him destroy your can. You will be safe. Just dock up and wait for the griefer to leave the system. Alternatively, take a break from Eve for a while and return a bit later.

You will need to be able to fly a Mammoth and Covetor for this to work. Consider these two ships to be short-term goals for you.

If you have any other questions, feel free to contact me in-game.

Eventually pirates worth their salt WILL cotton onto the fact you do this regularly. Don't jetcan mine, you wont get robbed.
