A better ratting ship

Hey all,

I have had my Dominix workhorse for a long time, and although it has served me faithfully, I wonder if there is a better ratting ship for me.

[Dominix, DPS]

2x Drone Link Augmentor I
Improved Cloaking Device II

2x Cap Recharger II
Sensor Booster II
ECCM - Omni II
Omnidirectional Tracking Link II

2x Armor Thermic Hardener II
2x Armor Kinetic Hardener II
Large Armor Repairer II
2x Drone Damage Amplifier II

3x Large Capacitor Control Circuit I

5x Warden II

With this fitting, my dps is 467.95. I have level 5 in most drone skills.

I have not trained for guns because it will take me nearly 60 days to train for the T2 gun and I kept putting it off. The extra dps from guns also seem lackluster, even at max skills.
I have also trained for a Rattlesnake, but likewise, the damage from missiles don't seem too great.

So for someone who is mostly a drone boat, can anyone recommend to me a better ship for ratting?

Have you thought of adding more Omni's and switching to Guards II's?

You can get the range to around 50km and they have much better DPS then Wardens.

As for Guns you don't really need T2, Meta 4 gives you about 85% of T2 anyway.

If you get a second dominix, you can shift your tank to your high slots. This lets you fill your mids with omnidirectional tracking links and your lows with drone damage augmentors. Generate cap by doing a cap transfer chain, then run reps with the cap you generate.

You can tank something like 1k DPS in this fashion, will doing 750 DPS out to 60km with each dominix. Not bad, all things considered.

I know this sounds strange but try out a shield tanked navy dominix after you get your gun skills up.

This thing does a metric ton of damage and tanks almost as well as your current ship. Its not as resistant to jamming but, youre in a drone ship, what do you care?

+1 on everything that Alara said.

Also, is this supposed to go against Guristas? (Can't think of another reason for Wardens.)
If so, and your gunnery skills really aren't about to move past fitting civilian blasters, you might want to try an Ishtar. It moves and aligns faster, which makes ratting generally more efficient and less vulnerable to surprise red-spikes. Also tanks Guristas without trying.

Yes this is against Guristas.

I am open to training a new ship and even training guns, but, can my dps get any higher? Or is my dps considered very good already?

ratting against guristas, there isnt much that beats the shield tanked ishtar

The MWD blaster proteus does it on paper but the distance the rats keep from you makes it worse cause the travel time between rats kills you.

Tanks 400 DPS, does almost 700 with a 45k optimal uses the small autocannons to get rid of small rats that get in under your drones and to grab aggro.

This is basically what I used when I was out there.

Minmatar Autocannon BS are good for it, but imo, a battleship for ratting is pointless... Do some anoms and get more money.

And to the above post, Ishtar is king of guristas space.

I wouldn't recommend using Projectiles against Guristas anyway because they have weak kinetic ammo.
The Isthar would serve you well.

Phased plasma and barrage have a reasonable damage profile for guris space.
