I promised to post info on this after I tested it. Well, we just ran L4 Recon 3 and it worked great! Our fleet of Skiff X3 is mining the ore on the far side of of the poison clouds as I write. The point being, L4 Recon 3 can now actually pay out.

The fit:

High SLot
1x Strip Miner I - power grid is really tight, so a T2 strip won't fit.

Medium power
3x Adaptive Invulnerability Field II
1x Experimental 10MN Afterburner I
1x Thermic Dissipation Field II

Low power
1x Damage Control II
1x Power Diagnostic System II

Rig Slot
1x Medium Core Defense Field Extender I
1x Medium Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I
Drones
5x Miner II
5X Hobgoblins

EDIT: Ship Stats:
81K+ omni tank (Incursion quality)
speed = ~630 m/s
cap stable

The run took us to 77% shields, so this is way over tanked for the purpose. I will probably go back and redesign for more yield as I get these missions. I'll find a good balance of tank and yield. But for starters, this build works fine.

Hope this info helps you folks !

Two questions:

Is the poison cloud still a beautiful sickly green?

and

What kind of ore is there?

The ore isn't wonderful. But it has a benefit. There's pretty much no way you'll be ganked in there. (of course, you're in a skiff. you won't be ganked anyway)

45 Roids Veldspar = 1382948 Units
30 Roids Plagioclase = 259119 Units
16 Roids Pyroxeres = 139845 Units

Woo! CSM XI!

How many roids? Is it worth it?

See post #3 for roids.

Whether or not it's worth it is subjective. For our corp, we let the miners know, fleet up, and run it. They do a mini-mining op and mop up all the ore.

We mainly think of it as being able to get pyroxeres in any system (like other mission mining scenarios). Opportunism.

Anyway, just something we were playing with...

Just to somewhat answer the question about whether or not the mining is worth it:
Pyroxeres and Plagioclase ~ 21 million as unprocessed ore in the Derelik region.

Extraction time will vary (of course) depending on how many miners are participating in the op.

Hope this helps.

The more I play with this, the more it becomes apparent that the Skiff is the king of mission mining due to its speed.

Good little ship.

From practical experience (not EFT) how would it compare to a Mack? Considering making Mack the default in-mission miner myself...

Thanks!

I don't usually post EFT dream machines. I tested all this stuff on SiSi first, then after the patch, tested on TQ. I've used both Mack and Skiff for mission mining, both solo and in corp ops.

First realize that mission roids are really spread out and often exceed the range of the strip miners even with Orca support. SO, since the Mack is so slow, and the Skiff is zippy, it's much easier to use the skiff. The speed not only helps you get to the roids faster, but you can avoid jet cans if you want, because the Skiff with afterburner can haul and return to the mission belt fairly quickly. That speed also gives you more flexibility in terms of using the Orca's bays, if you want. And, since the roids in grav sites are similarly spread out, it makes sense to use the Skiff there too, depending.

There is no problem with the Mack. It is our exhumer of choice for standard belts, especially when soloing. But in mining ops when the roids are spread out and the Orca pilot is madly directing traffic and/or you need the speed for what ever reason, the Skiff really shines.
