I like the new Mackinaw

Just as a contrast to all the moaning and bitching, I'd like to point out that I like the 1.2 patch changes to Barges and Exhumers. It's nice to be able to mine semi-AFK with a Mackinaw; just undock, warp to a belt, position myself, and then check back every 6 minutes or so.

It doesn't create a significant profit, in terms of ISK/h, but if I'm already sitting in front of the computer, then it's something extra to do at least part of the time.

So thumbs up for these changes!

And you aren't the only one, it's afforded me the ability to study while I mine as sometimes I don't have the time to do fleet mining operations and being a person who's completely dependant on PLEX and having to make money it's nice to be able to semi-passively keep an income while working on RL things...

I'm the same way as you guys, mining was just too boring for me if I had to check back on my Hulk every 3 minutes. But now with a Retriever, (don't want to buy a Mack just yet with these prices) I can check back every 15 minutes, switch asteroids, and make 5 million ISK every half hour.

I don't use the mack, still use the hulk but I really like how you can pick a role for your miner and not have to own three mining ships. I just have my hulk fit with the two new rigs and it's all in one ship. I really like these changes. No need to jetcan mine anymore (Mack), if you are worried about getting ganked fly a Skiff, you want max yield, fly a hulk. All have tradeoffs. Pretty dang nice and long overdue.

In before all the "you must stare at Overview every second" and "you must hit D-Scan every second" or you're not playing people show up to QQ some more.

I do, too. Much improved, in my opinion. Actually considering getting my Orca/Hulk alt back into running fleet ops.

You best check your setup again ..

Mining rigs use 250 calibration points - it's impossible to fit both on 1 ship.

I also enjoy the new changes to the Barges/Exhumers. While I still jetcan mine in my Hulk (I couldn't resist selling my Mackinaw after they got rid of it's Ice bonus, especially with the price spike), I really think that these changes will bring a lot more people into the mining community, and hopefully they actually stay.

I love it too. Tried mining again the other day, and it's way better. My maths were proven right too; I get higher yield with the mack than my hulk!

The huge ore bay means less time warping to station and back, and more time mining. I pull in more ore per hour than with a third strip miner, and I get more per strip anyway.
No micromanagement of cycles.
No paranoid checking of overview.
Kick back, relax, watch for belt rats, let the minerals roll in.

If I could have two wishes, I'd wish a simple +20% stripper range bonus on the Mack (maybe 4% or 5% per Exhumer skill level), and the ability to fit 3 unbonused strippers instead of 2 strippers with a +50% bonus each. That'd make semi-AFK style even easier and more comfortable, than it already is.

I find that once I position myself good, I can stay there for one ore bay cycle, sucking on 35k m3 of ore, but then the roids of that one type I'm sucking (usually Scordite, because it's worth the most) are nearly exhausted, so I either have to re-position (usually at the opposite end of the belt) or switch crystals.

So, 35k m3 per re-position. That's not bad. But would be nice to be able to do 70k per position.

Damn, I had old numbers or something. Thanks for the correction.

I also love the new Mackinaw. With so many miners now chewing away at ice while afk, bumping them away from the belt has become much more amusing when they do eventually return.

+1 to CCP. I manufacture T1 goods and I notice that traders consistently undercut me in Jita. Now I'm training up a Mack so I can mine my own minerals and undercut them back. Revenge is sweet.

Also +1 for CCP.
Having three toons rolling Mack's has become a lot easier for me to manage while semi afk. The massive ore bay is great. I still like the Hulk and will use it if I have Orca support.
Big fan of the new patch. Thanks for thinking of us miners CCP.

I used to have one alt in an Orca, giving bonuses, and then having my main in a Hulk with max pimped cargo bay, orbiting the Orca, and sucking roids and dumping the ore directly into the corp bay of the Orca, then my alt would move the ore to other bays.

With cargo rigs on the Hulk, that worked reasonably well for semi-AFK style.

Now, not quite so much. So I'm sticking with my Mack, and letting my two alt accounts remain cancelled.

I don't mine efficiently, but my guess is 7-8 million per hour, while doing something else. It is a very guessy guess, though.

Wow, was kinda hoping more than that. I mine about 4.5m isk per hr in my Osprey. :(

Whatever you make in your osprey, triple it at minimum, and you will have your basic numbers. Strip miners are a far cry ahead of mining lasers, and the Mack / Ret will go to base about once for every 10 trips of the Osprey. Lol
