Hello new citizens! Today I got my first solo kill. I've been practicing with d-scan in high sec and it paid off. I went on a low sec roam in a vexor and tracked down a kestrel. Landed right on top of him and dispatched the poor fool.

Enough bragging though. I learned some valuable lessons that I want to pass on to other newbz.
1. Sentry guns. They suck. If your target is at a station or gate (or just generally anywhere, for good measure) align right before they pop so you can make your escape...I did not escape.
2. Be patient and think it through. As I was buying a replacement ship/fit it occurred to me that killing a seemingly afk kestral sitting on top of a cyno is stupid. I should have waited for the JF to show up and held it for ransom.
Edit:apparently holding a JF at a station ransom is a bad idea...but still be cool

That is all

Firstly congratulations on you first solo killSmile

Secondly i hate sentry guns lol the damn things nearly never miss you Cry its unfortunate that most of the fights i see or am in happen at gates or stations.

Holding a JF for ransom now that would be amusing, id love to see how long it took before X amount of his buddies showed up to shall we say "teach" you that ransoming is bad. Even though it truely isnt Evil

Sentry guns always hit, as far as I know, since they do not have tracking.

Had you tried to ransom the JF, things would've gone down like this:

1) You tackle the JF when it cynos in and present your ransom demands.

2) JF docks.

3) Sentries pop you.

2 and 3 could easily happen in either order depending on your tank and how hard the JF pilot is laughing :)

I don't judge people by their race, religion, color, size, age, gender, or ethnicity. I judge them by their grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, clarity of expression, and logical consistency.

also, cyno's stay up for 10 mins and most people dont light them and wait for ship to jump. Chances are whatever he was jumping in was already sitting it station. Cyno's frigs die very easy (its almost doing them a favour saves them waiting 10 mins) since anyone can warp straight to them and they dont even need to tackle you, so within 2 or 3 seconds of the cyno lighting the capital will be jumping to it before someone gets to the frig

And as was already mentioned, if the cyno is on station its will be done is such a way that the capital can instantly dock once its in system. So your chances of catching what comes in are pretty much 0.

On the plus side killing cyno alts is still killing, keep up the good work

It's not been nice, but thanks for using lube

Cyno frig is the only thing we found on our last low sec trip, most systems were FW and the few people in there were mostly farming LPs in gunless nano-frigs.

However, every now and then someone will **** up and light their cyno too close to station. This will cause whatever they jump in to bounce out of dock range, allowing it to be tackled. It always pays to warp to cynos when they are lit and watch patiently :).

Not so sure about that. An RvB Ganked roam did that a month or three ago, and the fleet landed on a group of smartbombing battleships. LolBig smile
