I'm a noob. Obviously this is an alt, but my main is a noob too. I have one kill and about seven losses to my name, but I've never gotten too mad when i've lost a ship, because each and every time i've learned something that will prevent me from dying the same way again, or at least minimise my losses.

Death #1:

What: Rifter

Where: CL1 Wormhole

Lesson: Rifters have no place a wormhole. Ever.

Death #2:

What: Rifter

Where: Rifter gang lowsec roam

Lesson learned: When you're fighting battleships with a swam of rifters, go for the drones first. They're the only thing that can really hurt you up close, and even if you die you'll kill several times your rifter's value in T2 drones.

Death #3:

What: Rifter

Where: Rifter gang nullsec roam

Lesson learned: There are blobs in nullsec, and no tactics or planning will save you from them. On the bright side a second blob soon jumped in on top of the first and I got to see a fairly epic fight up close for about a minute until I was podded.

Death #4:

What: Hurricane

Where: CL2 Wormhole

Lesson: When there's only one anomoly left in a wormhole and a bad-guy spots your ship on dscan, he already knows exactly where you are and will bring his buddies. No amount of dscanning will save you.

Death #5:

What: Bestower

Where: Lowsec

Lesson: Sometimes arty battleships will sit on gates in lowsec. There is nothing you can fit on your T1 hauler that will save you from them. Plan accordingly.

Death #6

What: Bestower

Where: CL3 Wormhole

Lesson: When dicking around with PI in a WH, do it in the force-field, not at the customs office. Cloakylokis are everywhere.

Death #7:

What: Salvage Thrasher

Where: CL2 Wormhole

Lesson: Don't carry 200M of loot in a T1 destroyer. Split it up, or make multiple trips, because otherwise you will cry when you lose 24 nanoribbons in one go.

I think there was another one in there but damned if I can remember what I learned from it.

So what have YOU learned, and how did you learn it?

in a rifter
.5 system next to lowsec
someone obviously killed someone and jumped to highsec and got poped instantly

lesson learned?
if you near a lowsec/highsec gate its worth a peek to see if someone was dumb enough to jump back to highsec die anddrop loots..

Death #1:

What: Hulk
Where: CL2 Wormhole
Lesson: Use a Covetor when ninja mining.

Death #2:

What: Prowler
Where: 0.0
Lesson: Lag on mods happens. Learn NOT to hit cloak twice with a swarm of drams on a gate.

Death #3:

What: Drake
Where: On 0.0 station
Lesson: Check that you actually clicked dock and not warp to 0 before going AFK.

Death #4:

What: Loki
Where: 0.0 gate
Lesson: Check intel before engaging a lone Rapier

Death #5:

What: Loki
Where: On a jumpbridge
Lesson: All canes in 0.0 use neuts. Do not engage with PvE fit.

Death 6 through 99.... Unknown at this stage.

Those ECM drones in your cargohold? That you bought specifically to jam anyone who dares point your ship when trying to run away? Yes, those 200k worth of drones could have saved your 200M worth of ship. If you remembered to launch them.

Hmmm, remembering my noob days, well and not so noob but still cocking up days:

Lost: Hurricane
Where: Curse

Cynos tend to bring lots of WTFPWNAGE on top of you :)

Lost: Hurricane
Where: Insmother

If you see 3 dramiels, a sabre and a curse, you might be able to kill the dramiels and sabre, but the curse is going to drain you die and pwn you at range. (Having said that, I was quite happy to have solo'ed 2 dramiels and a sabre for one 'cane, just a shame the 2nd dram got out of my range ;) )

Lost: Rapier
Where: At a gate camp

Lag happens, if it happens at the wrong moment, you are screwed. When moving ships, even cloaky ones, don't try and run gate camps unless there is no choice

Lost: Maelstrom (3+ bil fit)
Where: Hi-sec (0.7)

Suicide ganks happen :)
Its not worth fitting expensive **** anywhere cept on a MS/Titan ;)

Lost: Pod
Where: Low-sec (0.6)

Just because there are gate guns, don't mean a BS can't sit there all day, just off the gate, in line with another gate, spamming SBs to catch you as soon as you come out of warp, perma tanking the gate guns.

Death #1

What: Thorax

Where: Mirilene (0.8)

Lesson: Just because the War Targets have seemingly "disappeared" it does not mean they are not in the next system waiting... and it certainly does not mean you should go back to running missions.

Death #2

What: Capsule

Where: Mirilene (0.8)

Lesson: Interceptors lock VERY fast, people like the whore onto killmails, and capsules are NOT meant to "slowboat" (was ALMOST at the gate too!)

Death #3

What: Brutix

Where: Pucherie (0.8)

Lesson: Cruisers are faster than Battlecruisers, friendlies cannot warp to you when you are less than 150km away, droneboats are SNEAKY bastards, sentry drones hurt, ECM isn't very fun.

Death #4

What: Incursus

Where: Pucherie (0.8)

Lesson: Don't **** off your corpmate... especially one older and more well versed in combat than you are... he will come down to your level and curbstomb you just to prove a point. Lol

Death #5

What: Atron

Where: Pucherie (0.8)

Lesson: Smartbombs don't work very well on frigates... and just because they guy you're facing is your junior by a significant margin, it doesn't mean he's less skilled... it just means that he's going prove a point with your wreck more than the other guys.

Imma give one more because this one is kinda funny...

Death #7

What: Myrmidon

Where: Hrondedir (0.3)

Lesson: Don't take a big hulking ship when a frigate will do... the frigate stands a better chance of actually getting there. And there is a BIG difference between NPC pirates and ACTUAL pirates... and that difference makes your passive shield tank look like wet tissue paper.

Woo-boy, where do I begin?

1) A fully T2-fit Rifter typically dies 15 seconds later than a T1/T2 or even just a plain T1 frig when it gets swarmed by drones in a fleet fight----so don't even bother with spending the isk past guns and maybe the repper.

2) If you come to a dead end roaming nullsec GTFO or be ready to log out for several hours. Or AFK cloak P

3) If you see their name in local, they've seen you. And so has everyone else in the regional intel channel.

4) If he's just sitting on a gate, his friends are on the other side.

5) If you didn't start the fight and aren't baiting----run like hell and only shoot back if you can't escape or feel loyal towards someone else in that situation.

6) Just because they can't camp a lowsec gate in an interceptor doesn't mean you can't be insta-locked.

7) If the other side hasn't run after the first fight, it means they're fitting to counter and calling in reinforcements.

8) Bubbles can be quite a drag (think about it).

9) Never be the last guy trying to dock---- I was down to hull and just as my session timer expired to let me dock up I got a message about having to wait for traffic.

10) Faction ships tend to be piloted by bad PvP'ers with lots of cash. They can be baited, ganked, and tricked into losing these shinies quite well---but if you're trying to fight 1v1 with the nonfaction equivalent, you'll probably lose.

11) If you see anything on a gate, cloaked or not, expect a camp.

12) Do not stop and break off from the pack in the middle of a roam to "do some ratting."

13) Always have a rear scout.

Quite simply that a bigger ship is not a better ship. You also need to be able to fit it. It was an expensive (at the time) hard lesson but very necessary because I came from a game where the guy with the biggest ship won.

No matter how super duper your ship is, if you are outnumbered and they are expecting you its all over.

I've lost quite a bit, mostly due to lack of knowledge (probably a bit over a bil in ships). The most important lesson I've learned is that if you fly it, you will eventually lose it. No amount of skill can make up for a dc, ambush, or some other rl circumstance.

Eve pixels are pricey, but that adds significance to loss, and in the end adds to the thrill of the game.
