What I would like to see in Eve - chat language translation...

Having just had a conversation with a Ruskie...where I only know 2 words of Russian and he knew similar English, Google language translation was...interesting.

It kinda worked! Yea, it's not the greatest but it was free and we WERE able to communicate and cooperate on something.

Would be nice if Eve chat had an option to autodetect a language and translate back and forth. :)

And you would expect the EVE translation to be better than the Google one?

Be careful what you wish for. The first implementation would probably translate "Let's form an alliance comrade!" as "YOU ARE THE SON OF A MOTHERLESS GOAT! Have at thee, swine!".

Surely this must be implemented.. even if for entertainment value of seeing this happen Roll
The easiest way probably would be to simply write some kind of interface with google translate and send translations over.
aka

Ruski chats something in russian in private convo to an english person -> Eve server detects russian/english clients, sends the text to Google Translate, then sends the translated message on to the english person.

Wouldn't be all that difficult really.. though it would be slow, so it would have to be an option you could 'turn on and off' easily to stop it from interfering when the users can work it out on their own.

This can be done if they'd implement the chat filter I wish to have, so you can manually replace words with others. Should work great for translation too...

All you need is an integrated russian translator.

More likely than you think, running stuff between google translate, babelfish and 3 or 4 languages always gives amusing results.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

I would also like to to see a translation automatically apply for chat.

Could call it....i don't know.....universal translator....

Once you think you have it all, you have actually become ignorant towards everything else.

Heck no! That might ruin the fun (if it is too good).

Maybe even make it a skill in Social. Social needs more skills anyway. Universal Translation...and skill V in that maybe better than Google. P
