A thread from march? Nice one. They'll get around to it sooner or later. They only just recently finished with missile renaming.

Edit: It's sort of like asking about when they'll get around to fixing black ops when they're still fixing frigates.

What, exactly, is a solid-state laser, and how is it supposed to make sense?

It sounds nowhere near as cool as a tachyon beam, whatever it is. (Though, realistically, tachyon beams should appear to fire at you, instead of away from you, as they travel back in time to rip your foes apart).

ITT energy weapons.

Usually the energy of a laser is the result of a gas phase reaction or the excitation of gas phase element/compound. I imagine a solid phase one would one powered by solid phase reaction (definitely something I haven't heard of before)

edit: here you go http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solid-state_laser :)

Oh, it's a real thing...

That makes it much less cool and sci-fi-y.

Agreed. Tachyon sounds much better.

nvm they're keeping tachyon. Solid state is fine then.
