Making the game more usable for new customers is not dumbing it down.

In fact that CCP has finally figured out that new players are more valuable than vets we may see more changes.

I disagree that CCP is dumbing down Eve but you are entitled to believe so yourself. Eve will not, imo, appeal to many WoW players at all. The impact, if any will be too subtle to notice.

If CCP wanted millions of subs, all they had to do was remove non-consensual PvP. That's all it would take for EVE's population to jump up by an order of magnitude. See Ultima Online and Trammel.

WOW is dying due to being long term a one horse race, successful but in the end.. why bother? SWTOR is also basicly WOW and is now dying and going FTP due to a lack of in-game end content beyond the WOW model.

They all went to play Diablo3 which is basicly WOW from all I have seen.

GW2 is game changing, I played the beta and its FTP massive open world, easy to get into, addictive and above all fun, it will kill WOW.

So EVE
EVE has staying power of a persistent world with unlimited content (us) and sandbox were even killing and scamming each other is actively encouraged. We will keep coming back to it. If only they could fix Sov and add whole new elements of the game without actually screwing it up each patch, we would never leave.

Eve is hard and a 'cult' game, this is a draw to its current 'old bastard' players. Making the game easier to learn and maybe making the GUI look like you are actually in space and not something covered in spreadsheets and icons like a 1998 Microprose game would be good for everyone's heath and wellbeing.

...No matter how much we liked playing MOO2 and Mechwarrior...

(Also EQ of yesteryear makes WOW look like crap.. poor stupid WOW players..)

TL:DR

Anyway... I love the fugees.

I'm a wow player who loved vanilla wow the best, BC less so, everything else even less. I played wow for the world PvP. I enjoy the danger of always having a chance of getting killed whenever I go do something carebearish. Wow killed their PvE -> leads to PvP model and put an end to ganking. Everything became pointless BGs, lame raids and unicorn farts.

I've enjoyed the hell out of eve. FW has been a blast and I've enjoy low sec exploration. It's not perfect but nothing ever is.

As a wow refuge, I want the following changes in eve: Being able to switch from PvE to PvP effectively to fight gankers. It's awesome being surprised and then turning the tables. More PvP and less running away. I'd like more stand up fights and less bugging out.

Given the structure of eve I don't think these changes are possible and I don't think the developers should even try to implement them. Eve seems to be a strictly predator/prey model of combat and it works pretty well for that model. It matches our ancestral hunter gather mode of combat pretty well.

One real suggestion: Do something with DSCAN. It's too powerful and the interface is very poor. I under stand good DSCANing is a bit of a minigame itself, but please modernize and make it more interesting.

Game Demographics change in any game, people get bored move on. CCP is trying to lesson the initial shock of starting or trying Eve , nothing wrong with that. lets face it, the information a new player is hit with is rather overwhelming for some.

Please clarify. You are never in PvE mode, and ALWAYS in PvP mode, so fight gankers all you want! If you don't like running away, then warp scram or web the bastards!

In wow I used to start fights while questing or herbing or whatever. In eve running a mission in a PvP fit isn't very fun and fighting back with a mining barge is not what I'd call fun PvP, even if you can win with the barge changes. Hell even the idea that you can mine for hours with no dangers in high sec and make more money than mining in low sec is pretty lame coming from a PvE leads to PvP background. But then again wow killed that mode of play.

Again, I don't think these changes would work in eve. People have been playing eve for years with the predator/prey design. I don't think changing that would be good. I'll take predator vs prey in the wild over today's wow = zero world combat model.

If CCP keeps up the harsh world PvP combat then I'll an eve customer for a long time to come.

Yeah but in WoW it was easy for the world pvp, there really isn't much to work forward to in WoW so you had to join a world pvp server or go bored. In EVE I always felt there was something to work forward, so the pvp is harder to get into, or don't need it as much to keep from getting bored. If EVE planned that nothing was important, I would propably go pvp straight away.

This is a delicate, but deliberate first step... just watch. You can deny it all you want, but this is the first step in the wrong direction. These changes are unnecessary and childish and wimpy. I played for 10minutes and logged. Just another game flushed down the toilet by its developer. Ill play for a couple more months until they ruin it completely.

EVE will only start to loose significant chunks of subscribers when their competion manages to lauch a MMORPG based on Internet Spaceships. As far as I know there isn't a single game under development that resembles EVE.

Thats why when CCP started to go to WiS there was a riot. Eve subscribers don't care about dungeons, pvp RP monsters, warriors, magicians, or fancy outfits. The main bulk doesnt care about you avatar apearence but they care about how the Machariel looks. They want Internet spaceships.

Games like GW2, Diablo 3, will catch a lot of subscribers from the adventure MMORPG like WoW, but EVE is unique at the moment, so will take a lot of effort to CCP to destroy the game if they continue to offer their member base Internet Spaceships.

They started to go on the worng direction with WiS but they saw the error in time and even more important, they managed to recover from the error very very well with the new expansions.

I don't know. I saw a lot of pissed off people over that fact that WiS was only Captains' Quarters, when they were lead to expect a lot more. It was never about monsters and magicians, though. :)

Actually, that wasn't always the case. Back when the trit price was capped at 2 or 3 isk/unit or whatever it was (and npc's sold shuttles in stations), before the drone regions, before the over-proliferation of capital ship construction, and before whatever else, ore prices were aligned to increase in cost with decreasing sec status. People used to actually mine in lowsec, despite the risk, for the increased profits. A highsec miner's wet dream was to skill up and move to 0.0 for the big money. Trit was the cheapest min, and veld was the least profitable ore to mine. There were legends of people making over 100 mil an hour mining in 0.0 in a hulk. Then that got all jacked around and eventually became the situation we have now.
