I wanted to ask here in hopes of getting a rational response, the merits of building charons etc an if its really worthwhile now.
As a tester I was gonna buy all the BPC's needed to produce 1 or maybe 2 an see if I actually make any money off it. But I dont want to go spending 6b on BPO's unless it's really viable.

Anyone know if it's worthwhile to put up with market pvp (minerals) and cost to build v profit for such a long turn around (10 days per build for me)

I think I'd only ever really build for personal use and even then... just for novelty purposes. But hey, that's just me.

Buying or mining your minerals? Is your time mining the all the minerals (minus meg/zyd most likely) worth your time?

BPC kits run around 200 to 250 Mill. Buy a freighter for around a bill (give or take usually). I haven't flown to Jita lately to check what the rabble is selling at lately, FYI.

To make money, you have to shell out for the BPO's, research them up a few ME, 1 or 2 PE, and then either mine your a*s off or use buy orders to get minerals (modules to refine).

I have built 5 by myself and mined all the minerals (minus meg/zyd). Worth my time? Not really, but it was something to do.

Last time I looked at the market, there was no shortage of freighters, and jumpfreighters are falling like rocks because of the impending technetium changes.

Keep in mind in the case of freighters that's well over a billion ISK in materials, even before considering BPOs. Its a huge opportunity cost to tie up that much ISK.

If you are uncertain, this is by no means something you should be considering. Do the market research yourself. Make up your own mind. It is after all your ISK at risk.

yer, I used to build alot of fighters 200+ a week but it was just more work than profit in end. I could go build Dreads, but at 2b outlay per unit, its alot to do. With CFC burning up their supplys there's prolly isk in it, but freighters is just easier over all, an I dont have to put up with building in egg.

There's probably a dozen different groups in the CFC building caps and delivering them right to our home systems. You're not going to get any of that market share. And I'm not sure what you mean in regards to anyone "burning their supply of caps". There's been no large cap welps by anyone in recent history.

Why are you trying to invest in all these big isk projects when you won't even do basic research? Why don't you just spend 10 minutes and make a spreadsheet and save yourself a bill.

I never understand why people come here and ask if something's profitable. Fuckin' make a spreadsheet and find out. If you have specific questions about how to manufacture something then that's different.

With moon mining predicted to become a purely active activity like current roid and ice mining investing in Orca and Rorq production might not be a bad idea. It sounds like Rorq's are going to be needed to improve moon mining efficiency and help with material storage at the actual front end of the operation. Freighters can not pick up jet cans outside of a pos so they will be no use in moon mining until you get the materials back to your pos Although there are rumours that a new capital mining ship will be used for this which seems pointless as the Rorq is under utilised already.
