Eve will not start with the New Macbook pro 15` With Retina Display/Os X Mountain Lion

Hi,

I have an new macbook pro 15` with Retina display and OS X Mountain Lion (10.8).
The issue is that the client will not start corectly (it starts but does not show anything, the music runs in the background).
I have tried everything and even put out an petition (4 days ago) but no one has answered.
Is this an common problem or it`s just on my part?
I have also tried to delete and reinstall and also to delete client data.
Also it does not work with the new patch also.

Sounds like the black screen problem. This SHOULD work, although who knows maybe you have some exotic new Retina-specific issue.


To fix the issue, remove all the following files (none of them seem to store any settings of any consequence).

Directory:
Users/username/Library/Application Support/EVE Online/p_drive/Local Settings/Application Data/CCP/EVE/c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility/settings/

Files:
core_char__.dat
core_public__.dat
core_public__.yaml
core_user__.dat

It seems that there is no such file:

I have the exact same laptop with the exact same problem. Any help on this would be appreciated.

Has someone submitted any bug reports?
I god an response for an petition and it said that they don`t support OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion).
It seems we have to wait until they will.

It worked on mountain lion before 1.2 but now it starts up, i hear the music but cannot enter password / username !

Hope this can be patched in next few days. I fear the mac owners do not get the same level of support as the PC peeps.

PS. Silly question, how do I submit bug report when i cannot load the game up ?

I have the same problem...just got the new Macbook with the Retina display.
The console says this:
8/10/12 7:29:39.545 PM cider[538]: -[VideoController setFullScreen:](): exception occurred while switching video modes: Unable to get display mode for resolution 1920 x 1200 and depth 32

I guess I just play on my Linux desktop for now. Works very well on Linux (which is not even supported)...

Got it sorted.
In setting/displays do not use the highest resolution/scaling. (More space). Set it to the second highest. Then the client can start. Ingame you can set resolution higher then. 2800*... works fine.
It looks pretty amazing :)

Trebron Znieh you are a true gent. Why couldnt the CCP bunch tell us that workaround.

Thanks for the time you spent figuring that out - works brillianlty on full resolution although the star field is a little overwhelming.

I am made up now.

CCP probably does not have a rMBP, so they could not test I guess.

I'm having the exact same issue except the resolution changing trick doesn't seem to be working for me at all =/

I don't hear any music, when I click play the screen adjusts the resolution and then I get the black screen with a cursor. No music =/

First off, great job with the game, on the full 2880x1800 resolution on a retina display it looks absolutely stunning. There's so much room for activities!

However, I seem to be having some pretty serious issues with the client =/

When I launch the game I get the small splash screen with the PLAY button. Any patches seem to download and install just fine. Once I hit the PLAY button the screen resolution adjusts and I get a black screen with the cursor on it. No music or anything in the background. I left it like this for over 10 minutes with no change.

I've tried the various steps outlined in this thread: LINK TO THIS THREAD
but none of them seem to have any effect.

Initially when I installed Eve I had the black screen issue on an occasional launch but it seemed to work most of the time. Just two days ago I had two clients running simultaneously with no issues.

I can provide any logs or anything you require.

I have to go back to 'best for retina' under system preferences -> display then apply, launch eve, leave fullscreen and enter windowed mode, then bump my resolution back up.

If I need to relaunch eve, I have to repeat these exact steps every time.

Otherwise if I try and launch EVE normally under a scaled resolution, one of my cores gets pegged by the wine wrapper, and it just sits there.

Today's patch seems to let me do this now also.

It should not be neccessary to Alt-Tab and change the resolution there. You can change it ingame for the Eve Client only.
Press ESC in game and change video settings.

Guys go upgrade you Mountain Lion to 10.8.1 it helps a lot!

I have the retina and upgraded to mountain lion.

I have:
1. random freeze from time to time (not only the client but entire laptop) and i have to power off/on.
2. low FPS in pockets with gas clouds.
3. sometimes lasers look like white beams and when a lot of NPCs are shooting i have to zoom out a lot other way everything is white.

Unfortunately, the laptop gets hot. It doesn't seem to make a difference which video card is using the integrated or the nVidia.
I'm new to mac books but if anyone knows a software to underclock the CPU, that might do the job of keeping it cool(er) Roll

This is getting really bad. I still have this problem, it's making Eve almost unplayable. I have to reinstall eve regularly and it doesn't always fix it.

I get unhandled page faults and the black screen. I've left the black screen sitting for nearly an hour and it doesn't launch. CCP, get this sorted please.

New player with a new Macpro Pro "15 (non Retina) with Mountain Lion.

I had the issue where the first time that you run the aplpication it takes a LLLOOOONNNNGGGG time to start. After that first time it starts very quickly.

I have to Control-Open the EVE Launcher otherwise I get a message that the application is from an unrecognized publisher (I don't want to change my security settings).

My laptop gets very hot while playing the game. Is this normal??

Start the day off slow and taper off from there.
