I dont think WoW is losing subs to EVE. Its GW2 that both WoW and EVE will lose a big chunk of playerbase to.

Also, its good theyre making the game better for new players. Nobody cares about bitter vets really.

Oh, so many times in the last 10 years i've seen this posted...

"XXX game will make EVE lose a lot of subs".

Still makes me giggle.

Back on topic though, EVE REALLY needed a boost in it's accessibility. It was nearly impossible for newer players to really get into the game due to the immense learning curve the UI had and how difficult it was to get the information you needed.

If this were a strategy game, bitter vets would be complaining about the new patch including the ability to see what units you have selected. Obviously, having to remember this equates to 'more skill'.

I disagree that EVE needs to be more accessable. The type of people that this game attracts actually enjoy the learning curve, as well as embrace the patience you need to play this game. The people that don't embrace the learning curve, or don't have the patience, move on to something else. I don't think EVE ever needs to worry about refugees from any game, on the contrary; we should be looking forward to more people trying this game out. Only the dedicated will stick it out, making the game stronger. The less dedicated will leave. No issues. I honesty cannot envision the whining entitled masses ever gaining enough of a foothold in this game to ever make a difference. They will just play other Blizzard games, where people actually make changes to the games based on mass whining.

yep quality of life changes make the game easier for the bads.

Bads find game easier, less likely to quit. More likely to stick around and accumulate modest wealth.

QOL changes don't protect bads from foolish market investments, futile PVP attempts or falling for scams.

The truely bad players will be parted with their ISK, one way or another.
The initialy-bad but quick to learn players will grow into more legitimate EVE players.

So:

Scammers/PVPers/Marketeers make more isk from actually bad players
EVE gets more actually good players in the long run.

I fail to see how this is a negative change for anyone involved.

In the cat-and-mouse game that is low sec, there is no shame in learning to be a better mouse.

As someone who enjoys Warcraft more and more over the years, and Eve less and less, I find this thread amusing.

Resident Haruhiist since December 2008.

Laying claim to Out of Pod Experience since 2007, plain and simple. Keep the trash out of Out Of Pod Experience, If it's EVE Related or deserves a Lock, it does not belong here.

I played WoW, and I played Eve.... AT THE SAME TIME YOU GUYS!

They are not mutually exclusive.

Now I only play Eve though.

You're forgetting the important part where EQ came along and was much better at being what UO tried to be with the schism.

UO did enjoy a net growth after the schism. Primarly due to an influx of what we now call carebears.
UO lost that growth once EQ hit the shelves.
UO had already lost a lot of their veteran followers due to the schism.
UO died as a result of changing its design paradigm and thus attempting to compete with other games on their home turf. Of course EQ wasn't when the schism happened so you cannot really blame anybody.

But I believe that's what Malcanis is referring to.

According to your history lesson if a viable alternative to Eve is released, CCP is ****** hard. You've already had the schism, exodus, and influx.

I want this game to be so f**king hard that I need to have a Masters in Mathematics, Physics, and a doctrines in Science.

I can't allow CCP to have anyone else but me play this game. ****.

Do you think refugees from other mmos will impact eve and how long will they stay and to what extent will CCP modify eve to retain these refugees?

Can you give a list of features in EVE that have been dumbed down?

I'm guessing the tutorials are too easy to find and give away to many T1 frigates.

Back in OP's day, you had to fight your way through Goon null to a station you had to scan down and do two 40-jump courier missions for an agent in there before he let you buy your first Merlin from him for 1,000,000 isk.

You didn't disprove my point. Of course they complain, they ALL complain. But does CCP make changes to appease them? It looks to me like CCP makes the changes they want to make, complaints or not. Everyone threw a shitstorm over WiS, so what did CCP do? They started refocusing on ships, instead of avatars. But did they take the WiS stuff out? Nope, it's all still there. Blizzard, OTOH, will change thier entire direction if enough people complain.

WOW is dying due to being long term a one horse race, successful but in the end.. why bother? SWTOR is also basicly WOW and is now dying and going FTP due to a lack of in-game end content beyond the WOW model.

They all went to play Diablo3 which is basicly WOW from all I have seen.

GW2 is game changing, I played the beta and its FTP massive open world, easy to get into, addictive and above all fun, it will kill WOW.

So EVE
EVE has staying power of a persistent world with unlimited content (us) and sandbox were even killing and scamming each other is actively encouraged. We will keep coming back to it. If only they could fix Sov and add whole new elements of the game without actually screwing it up each patch, we would never leave.

Eve is hard and a 'cult' game, this is a draw to its current 'old bastard' players. Making the game easier to learn and maybe making the GUI look like you are actually in space and not something covered in spreadsheets and icons like a 1998 Microprose game would be good for everyone's heath and wellbeing.

...No matter how much we liked playing MOO2 and Mechwarrior...

(Also EQ of yesteryear makes WOW look like crap.. poor stupid WOW players..)
