Hey! I do. Cry

That's why I always preferred active-tanked Drakes to PST ones in missions.

considering the rigs are in the game to allow you to retain pre patch levels of mining yield, there damn well shouldn't be a drawback on the rigs, losing the rig slot just to keep current levels of yield is already a drawback.

Almost all exhumers and barges were fitted with now useless cargo expanding rigs. They get replaced with new shiny rigs with mining uprades.Perhaps this patch has some use after all.

the drawback is that a miner has to choose between yield or defence

besides that new rig that adds cpu will see more uses than on barges/exhumers alone

I do not agree with what you are saying , but i will defend to the death your right to say it...... Voltaire

The new rigs have a calibration cost of 250 for the T1 version. Isn't that enough of a drawback?

I agree the biggest drawback of all is that the purpose of the ore bay was to free up the rig lots for extra defense; however, if you choose to throw a rig on to mine more efficiently, then you are choosing to negate those shield rigs as well and that is a pretty big drawback of itself.

OP go Ice mining for a week and see how you feel about the rig and needing a down side.

or should I say Ice mining is the very bottom you can't get any lower so anything CCP does to the rig as an offset will just be laughed at, so rightly so they just left it alone.

and the Mercoxit rig, well as others have said you will be sacrificing some tank so its use will be questionable all things considered.

This..

250 calibration is a lot, it means you can't fit much else in the other rig slots, certainly no decent tech 2 rigs, not another mining rig. And they are only used for specific kinds of mining ( ice and mercoxit ), meaning that if you want to mine those things, you will have to sacrifice something to be able to.

Does railgun ammunition come in Hollow Point?

Interesting only a couple of people mentioning the *decision* to rig or not (and the gimping of the ship) that was originally intended with rigs....

It seems most people have become so familiar, used to and dependent on rigs that they are effectively just more module slots for their ships now rather than any tough decision to gimp and specialise a ship.

Personally I quite liked the idea behind that part of rigging ships and would be a bit sad if all rig penalties were removed; in fact I'd like to see new tougher penalties and gimping possibilities to add more variation to the game - standard fits kind of disappoint me in pvp and as a result it often becomes a number crunching game for the FCs etc... whether to take the fight. More variety in fits due to gimped rigging would make it less predictable.

More than that I'm sad there appears to be no consistent game design coming from CCP regarding rigs. Removing penalties just to make the rigged ships similar output to the old standard fit seems like a fudged solution. I really hope rigs are on the list of things to be looked at by CCP however it would also make sense to do it while balancing ships rather than do it after the ship balancing then throw the whole thing out of whack again. More fudged ship balancing solutions using the rigs removes the gimping aspect, so I do also hope CCP have a clear picture of what they want rigs to be/do [either like more module slots or proper gimping].

Cheers.

PS- Oh and to the starter corp alt-chap having trouble understanding me - I apologise but it was 2 AM and brain was hurting. You're a prick though - hope that was clear and concise enough for you. o7
