Removing fixed warp in points.

One thing that has always bugged me about EVE is that you warp to a moon or a planet and you always end up at the same location and the fact that you can't orbit a said planets or moons.

I am just wondering if it would be better to remove those locked down points and instead go to a directional warp in.

Ie when you warp in you arrive so far from the planet or moon from whichever direction you came from.

So that means you could place a Station or POS on the back side of a planet or moon just at a fixed distance from the planet or moon.

Having single warp in points does nothing but make the solar systems smaller.
If you are chasing someone and they warp to a moon the result will be the same as you are both coming from the same direction .

At one time CCP was talking about allowing people to put up personal structures in orbit and multiple stations on the same planet.

This would allow it to happen and not create a huge parking lot so to speak.

They have a single warp in point so that it's easier to navigate. It also enables people to give chase to a fleeing target. (scout reports "he warped to planet V" and the fleet just has to hit "warp to" instead of waiting for the scout to land and then warping to him and hoping the target went afk)

Lastly, it IS possible to circumnavigate plantes/moons. It just takes a LONG time and you have to do it manualy.

take one fast ship
hit the oem warp points
fly in whatever direction thrills you
place bm or whatever at a spot far away from known spots

Eve's default BM's give you a starting point, what you do after that is all you. Want your own warp to points, make em. My usual routine in new 0.0. homes was the first day or 2 was lots of bookmarking home and nearby systems. Af or inty the preferred rides for the speed factor. Not fun but a necessary evil.

So when someone calls you going to p/m....whoever is chasing you is in for a surprise when they land and don't see you on ov. If quick on the draw might see you on d-scan. But you should be aligning and warping unseen bouncing to your next hidey hole they have no idea the direction its in.

Yeah, you can circumnavigate, but you can't orbit. For that you would need gravity, and much less friction. Or in other words, you would need to actually be in space

The fixed warpin points are pretty much just there to disguise the fact the planets in Eve are nowhere near to scale.

Get close to one and then tell me they aren't to scale. (close isn't the 100,000km away that the default "warp to" grid is)

yes fixed warpins suck and destroy immersion. They should go if possible. Yes their removal would make eve more difficult but in the same time it would add some more depth into the game.

Planets are going to get additional warp in points for use in DUST 514 bombardments. It's not really what you want but it is close

eve players should figure out proper bombardment locations on their own, involving some kind of skill - not predefined warp-ins.
