What kind of real life market is equivalent to the market in Eve?

So recently I've been very interested in trading in Eve. I've started doing research, calculations, voodoo, etc, and all that got me thinking what could be the equivalent of what we have in Even in real life?

The only rl market I'm in any way familiar with is the stock market, but although there are some "public" corporations in Eve, the stock market isn't what we have when we open up the market screen to look for lucrative trade deals.

I know of something called "futures trading", but not very much. I think this is when you buy a contract to resell a commodity at a later date. So for example you'd buy bananas from a farmer for say $100 a crate, and then you sell that contract to a retailer at like $110 a crate.
But this is different from Eve since in Eve when you buy those bananas you actually get the physical product. In futures trading you don't ever get the physical product since it's all done in huge bulk and no broker will ever let a contract expire (and thus being delivered to your house).

So that's as much as I know about real life markets and would appreciate if someone could equate Eve's market with something in real life?

It's a cross between commodities trading (the real thing, not futures) with the low liquidity of small stocks trading.

I once spent a ton of money buying and selling rare books on eBay. Most of these real world skills transferred to Eve.

What Vaerah Vahrokha said, with the addition that EvEs market game mechanics and rules are quite simplistic and differ from most RW markets. U have more complex mechanics/rules and systems involved in many RW markets.

This may not be the type of trading the OP is doing but the type of trading that I do, station trading, resembles the distribution business model. It's also similar to the type of business I do IRL.

Many of the basics between the two are close but real life business is a couple of orders of magnitude more complicated due to legal and logistical differences between game and real companies.

Some similarities are buying low stock and selling high (ofc!), finding products that sell easily, profitably and quickly. Finding good locations for your goods. Figuring out current social patterns and trying to figure out future social patterns and overhead costs.

Some differences are liability, incorporation duties, delegation of duties, payroll and taxes, import/export restrictions.
