Unfortunately, no. You can only control 1 character from one account at any given time.
If you have 2 accounts you can play with 2 characters at the same time, on the same computer or another computer.
Generally speaking this is not possible with a trial account either, both accounts must be full, payed up in good standing.

No, only one character per account can be active. You can however, have two ACCOUNTS active on the same or seperate computers if they are both paid accounts.

Do note that you may be logged in on one character per account at a time, per server.
For example, if you wanted to log into Tranquility (main EVE server) and Singularity (main test server) at the same time, from one account, then this would be fine (you could even use the same character on both).
However, actions carried out on the test server will never affect your Tranquility account (though you can gain new knowledge by testing different setups, skills etc).

Related (if stupid) question: will second account (non-trial) interfere with my ability to use my main in case the former will go inactive?

Each account has it's own game time.

So if account A runs out of gametime and goes inactive, this does not affect account B directly
It can however affect you with what you do in EVE if that job is build around 2 characters.

e.g. If you have a carrier and a cyno pilot and the cyno pilot goes inactive, your carrier won't be able to jump out of system unless you find someone else to light you the cyno.
