Parents of Eve Online, if you have raging issues, please seek help before Dust release for the safety of your children. Internet spaceship is serious business. You can rage, but don't hurt someone, especially one of your own :-(

Awesome. I hope the kid has to breathe through a respirator for the rest of his life.

The, "LOL it's just the internet!" doesn't work anymore. If you talk **** to someone bigger than you, stronger than you, and able to kick your ass in real life, you deserve to get your ass kicked. If you talk **** to someone on the internet bigger than you, stronger than you, and able to kick your ass in real life, you deserve to get your ass kicked.

I fail to see the difference between being a douchebag little punk in real life and being a douchebag little punk on the internet.

He should've crushed his larynx.

Well, as much as free speech and denial through violence is a big issue, you are correct in many ways.

The truth of the matter is that being able to completely flame someone 7 ways to Sunday without fear of reprisal has created a new breed of people to deal with.

The worst part is that the laws in much of the western world have become so nellied up that if you did kick the ass of someone who deserved it, you are screwed for life.

Back in my day, if you mouthed off and riled someone up to puching your lights out, the cops would ask witnesses, and usually there would not be any arrests because that sort of behavior should be expected to get you punched.

Now how many of these kids will grow up to be the sort of person who would wreck someones life for the enjoyment - lacking any financial gain - and then ninny about it if they got attacked?

So the "system" will ensure the safety of these people to ensure there are always people like that, because it needs a dysfunctional society to keep bewildered and preoccupied.

Back in the days of yor, the way it was explained to me, was that if a stranger was about you can tell them to get lost, but that was rare. People did not do things simply because they could. If you rode up to a stranger and treated him like scum for being on your land, you could be opening a can of worms. While everybody had guns and more rights to use them, there was a careful application of "just because you can, does not mean you should".
(So of course we need brats for a society so there can be laws for every little thing now).

I recall cases of houndsmen dealing with landowners who shoot their dogs. A clearly marked hunting dog, with a radio, lost, crossing land to get home, gets shot. In each case it turns out that the dog didn't threaten any livestock, and the location was found out usually by the lame attempts of said land owners to bury the radio tracking collars. (duh!).

In almost every case, the landowner was that "city moved to the country" type who spent his whole life being a specialist in "lawfare" - one of those careers where every day it's paperwork and red tape and doing anything you can get away with and cover your butt for, and doing to others anything they failed to counter with their red tape and paperwork - lawyers, ex cops, politicians, military officers - all the types where everything is law this and procedure that to hide behind and get away with being complete scum. So they kill something because they are blackened little souls who looked at the dog, knew the law, but killed it anyway because they could.

In the several cases I know of from my tracking connections, they were lucky the houndsmen accept dog loss as the norm (especially with wild boar) because other hunters I know would have decided to test their long-distance skills on the a-holes.

Only one houndsman I know made sure to spread a false reputation of himself as the sort of person who would skin alive anyone who hurt his dogs, and he never lost a dog to a prick landowner.

THAT is the other side of the equation - if there was consequence for being an asshat, there would not be any asshats.

Edit: the freaking article is funny too.

You have no way of knowing that.

Using violence on children to get them to obey you teaches many children that violence is how you get people to obey you.

Every kid is different.

I know some kids who would never need to be punished, but were anwyay, and it messed them up for life. I know others who desperately needed to be taken out to the woodshed and beaten like a red-headed stepchild but never were, and that messed them up for life. I know others who needed a beating and got it, and they turned out alright.

Some got punished but not enough. I am one of them..

If I had a time machine I would go back and kick my own ass. I know of a few key pivotal moments where there would have been great benefit to my future if someone smacked some sense into me.

Teaching children is the same as teaching anything or anyone else. You need a combination of negative and positive reinforcement. Part of raising a child is smacking them the first time they try and put a fork in a powerpoint, so they never ever try to do it again until they are old enough to fully understand why you took such action.

Choking someone is a step too far, and negative reinforcement doesn't have to be only physical violence. But if there is one thing I would expect a parent to drill into their children, it would be good sportsmanship.

A MIDDLE-aged man carried out a real-life revenge attack on the Drake-flying neckbeard who killed his supercap in an online internet spaceship game.

xxxCrappyUsernamexxx, 46, saw red when the boy gloated after pressing f1 to blow up his ship while playing EVE Online: Incarna.

A court heard how Bradford stormed out of his bedsit and assaulted the Caldari "scrub" who was playing the sci-fi game at a friend’s home nearby.

The pal’s mum had to come to the terrified boy’s rescue after Bradford marched into the front room and grabbed the boy’s throat with both hands.

The lad, who cannot be identified, said last night: “I was just sat playing. We’d had a bit of idiotic smacktalk and then he stormed in and grabbed me. I didn’t know what was going on.”

Jobless Bradford and the teenager had been playing the "internet spaceship game" on computers and were talking to each other over "Jita local channel."

Plymouth magistrates heard that the dad-of-three walked away speaking in unintelligible ASCII art and memes after the attack in July. The victim was left deafened and QQing. His mum, 33, said last night: “It’s pathetic that a grown man would attack a defenseless child like this.

“If you don't know to fly what you can afford to lose then you shouldn’t be playing games.

“I know xxx from his crappy failposts on CAOD and went straight round when I found out what had happened. I was fuming. But rather than have it out with him I got CONCORD involved.”

xxxCrappyUsernamexxx, of St Budeaux, Plymouth, admitted assault and has had his security status lowered by 1.7.

Whilst I find myself broadly in agreement with you, I have to note that being a smacktard isn't exactly a recent development and I've been falling over the twats since I was a nipper. They're not exactly a rare breed.

Being fat, ginger, wearing glasses and having the temerity to grow my hair past my collar I've come in for all manner of "hilarious" abuse from brave souls driving past and groups of wankers judging (mostly correctly) that I'd be unlikely to pummel them into the floor if the odds are 4-1 in their favour.

Some folk just have no idea of how to behave towards others... sad, but true and even sadder not exactly breaking news. Sad

On an OP related note, as a sometime player of various CoD and BF type games, I've often said it's only the fact that they don't yet market "put your hand down the internet and choke the aimbotting trollkin" cards that has saved me from doing time for mass murder.

That said, I'm not sure I'd be up for tracking down annoying gobshites irl and going postal on their assess just 'cos I could. Aside from anything else, I'd be out tracking down and murdering miscreants 3 days for every round of BC2 I got wtfpwnedheadshotted from right across the map by some **** so it'd make levelling awfully slow.

And THAT, my friend, is why it should be legal to beat the living **** out of asshats without fear of repercussions.

It'd be quite simple, actually. Local, state, and even federal governments could enforce new laws stating that if your behavior resembles that which is on this list of asshat behavior, then you deserve the beating you get and no charges can or will be filed against the person you targeted with your asshat-edness.

An adult tracking down a kid and battering him for insulting him is just sad on so many levels. Trust me I believe one should be held accountable for their words, but violence is rarely justified.

In other news another child is abused by adults.
