Eve Fitting Tool and the API key

OK I would love to use EFT but I can't even get past getting an API key.
The API key page is not very helpful with instructions on what you're supposed to do! (that and I'm a dunce when it comes to figuring some things out)
EFT set up wants an API Key AND a Verification code but I can't for the life of me see a field that has an API key in it for me to copy...verification code, yes (I think) KEY...no...

Help meh please!

(please don't flame me, I already said I'm an idiot) Oops

Alright, it's actually pretty simple, you're just over thinking it.

First go to this link: https://support.eveonline.com/api/

Then log in.

Then on the top right side of the page it should say [Create API Key]

Click it.

Then it should be pretty simple from there, just click what you want and set everything up.

EDIT: Once you have it created your API Key will come up. It will have your ID (The API Key), the name that you gave the key, the verification code, the character it is under, the Type, the access mark, and the expiration date. You can also update / delete the key on the right side of the page.

And there lies the problem, there is nothing on the top RIGHT side of my screen except a search box which is above all the various links to other parts of the site.
The only thing that says Create API key (aside from the title) is in the middle of the menu on the left. And when I used that, it changed the stuff in the verification code box.

Also what the heck are all those listings on the left with the check boxes for?

Ok, once you're at the point you showed in the image you posted, you need to type in '8' in the Access Mask field, give it a name (EFT or whatever), click Generate vCode if it doesn't do it automatically, check the No Expiry option, and Submit. Then you copy the keyID and vCode it gives you into EFT.

Those items over on the right do the same thing as the Access Mask, but in checkbox form instead of number form, they let you set up what different stuff that API key can view. Since EFT only needs access to the Character Sheet API page, which translates to a mask of '8', I just told you to set that individually. The No Expiry means that the key won't become invalid over time (by default they stop working after a year for security reasons).

Bless you!
That worked Big smile
Would still love to know why I don't have a create key button on the top right like the other guy mentioned What?
Maybe the EVE site has issues with some browsers.

Because you clicked it already, or followed a link that creates a predefined key (I think EFT, Evemon, do this).

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia
