It's true that using a booster to prop up a single combat ship isn't technically "solo," but then again, if we remove off-grid boosting to "boost" solo pvp, should we also remove scouts, spies, and cyno alts? If so, how would we do this? I think the answers are no, and that it's impossible. For practical purposes, "solo" pvp implies one combat ship doing the fighting without direct assistance from others, either in the form of aggression or targeted support.

If there really is to be a booster change, then how about we go for something a little more intricate, such as ship scanners showing the stats of the modules people use? That way, it's possible to find out whether or not a person is being boosted, but at least you'd have to work for it.

I wrote some true EVE stories! And no, they're not of the generic "my 0.0 alliance had lots of 0.0 fleets and took a lot of 0.0 space" sort. Check them out here:

Since when does off grid boosting show up on killmails?

Come to think of it why the **** don't off grid boosters show up on killmails?

Can't see how it would be a detriment to me and it screws with killboard-epeen-idiots. I like it.

I think a Dev was talking about wanting to do that. I don't remember it, and I applaud the idea entirely.

Would love it.

Add rep/logistics while we're at it, after all they were a part of the fight as well. Perhaps then one day those of us who trained leadership/logistics on our mains won't get raged at for doing 'alts business', too (even tho it wasn't when we trained it, we might enjoy it, and it's useful). P

Either way, it would have an interesting effect on people who want to killboard pad. This'd be also be quite a useful intel tool. Can only see benefits with it, tbh.

this change alone just punishes smaller gangs. forcing ganglinks to be on field isn't necessarily bad (it would be cool to **** with the one system wonders and their POS sitting alt boosters) but you just create a bigger gap between the talentless blobbers who have bodies to spare and the actual decent small gangs who need all the dps they can get.

Links need to be brought back to a point where they give an edge but aren't a win button. The amount they improve a gang is ridiculous right now. Basically just listen to Bringing Solo Back podcast, the one with Garmon.

i tend to pvp solo, i have no alts. While i don't like off-grid boosting from a risk:reward standpoint, i can understand why it is in place.

Perhaps have the bonuses scaled to the amount of ships receiving them, the more ships, the more thinly spread they become.

In other threads we keep hearing about Risk v Reward. Where's the risk in boosting from off the grid?

That only applies to miners, mission runners, people who aren't me etc obviously.

If you are using multiple chars, you are not solo.

I think removing off grid boosting would help revive solo PVP, and I mean real solo pvpers.

Someone got roflstomped in a 1v1 and can't accept it was 1v1 and he got beat...

Must have been that off grid booster Roll

Off grid boosting seems fine...I always assume even if I setup a gudfight that the other guy is looking for any advantage...lol that must be why I lose so much...lol...damn off grid boosters...

No seriously, off grid boosting should be okay. I don't think it should be nerfed to buff Solo PvP, as fun as Solo is, it would be to detrimental to other play styles that have options for handling off grid boosting.

I do think POS boosting should be nerfed hard though...

Off grid boosting enables one (technically two) characters to take on ten.

If you remove off grid boosting then the rorq and command t3s become unusable.
This has been discussed to death.

It's a bad idea.

But since 2 != 1, it is not solo pvp.

woosh.

So what your saying is your mad there is a guy who can pilot two toons at the same time better than you can control 1?

Offgrid links are bad in that they've become mandatory just to maintain parity in small-gang PvP. Sure it's cool when you take on a bunch of scrubby BC's in your linked ship but it becomes less cool when you have to lug around links and set them up so you can have a solid 1v1 with the other leet PvPer who is rolling around with them - at this point I'd just rather go back to the old spontaneity of combat rather than the current standard of x` 'let's all **** around for a bit while we both get our links in safes then get a-pewing.'

Multiboxing is legal in WoW too, so much fun, you all sound like you wold enjoy it more there, hell you might learn a thing or two from the 40 char 1 man av teams that shows up regularly, **** off-grid boosting and get with pros.

Actualy if this gets changed look for the rorqual no longer needing to be in deployed mode to give (bonused) boosts. Same goes for if they take away boosters in POS shields.

Regardless of all the crying and frothing of the mouth people display when begging for fleet booster nerfs, they are more likely to start a second account and get their own fleet booster before they ever quit the game over it.

If fleet boosters were actually nerfed there would be many, many second/third/etc accounts suddenly not being worth another $15/.5bil isk a month.

So to someone with an interest in this game's success from a business standpoint, what do you think they would do? Leave in the mechanic that raises the status quo and promotes multiboxing but incites whine in the tiny percentage of players too broke to get their own alt account (or too "honorable" lol), or remove that mechanic from the game and certainly lose some subs immediately?

Even if it was nerfed it would just be some other new meta gaming tactic to gain an edge. Personally I find that a single player can do a hell of a lot more damage by bringing the second character into combat. Do the math, the best fleet bonuses give what a 35% boost to a couple attributes? Bring in a second ship and you're doing double damage to them, have twice the total ehp, points, webs, etc.. oh but that shows up on a killmail. If you're worried about looking bad on a killboard you need to get a life.

53.75% bonus from a maxed skilled T3 alt booster with respective command link implant(slot 10) e.i Skirmish >> Loki
Which i agree is ridiculously stupid high. Nerf them to 25-30% bonus but leave them offgrid, crying will go away.

The skirmish interdiction link is the only one that gets to 50%. It's not a major difference unless you're talking about an overheated faction point or something.
