Im afraid it actually does give them that right. When you sign the contract with the company you give them that right, dont sign the contract, no electric. Iv never read your constitution but i can almost guarantee there is nothing in there with the words electrical or meter in it. As for the basketball comment, i doubt you signed a contract stating they could but you would be a very mean person to be stealing kids basketballs lol.

This is simply a case of a person thinking she has entitlements because she feels like it.

As for the unit collecting information such as power usage, since that information is solely used by the power company for statistics and for issuing bills and not to watch what you get up to and is stored on a private secured server somewhere they cant get all uppety about that either. It would also be covered in the contract and usage policy.

Like I said... *IF* the contract says something about it... or *IF* there are specific laws about it. Otherwise, get off mah lawn!

PS: And no, you kid can't have his darn baseball back. It's on my lawn and it's gonna stay there.

The company would have to be some fools to offer a service without a contract that states it. I mean so its ok for them to come in and read your meter and bill you but its not ok to remove it and update it with better technology? Even if it is not covered on the current contract, they can simply update their policy to include it and when customers come to renew they must agree to it or find another power company. Thats life im afraid. Companies are cocks.

lol obviously if it is an illegal activity doesnt matter about what you signed in the contract. Over here all our meters were updated a year or 2 ago also and we didnt have a say in the matter but we didnt really care because the new meters were more accurate when measing the usage. Even so i have my own meter inside the house, i just plug it into a socket and it transmits my usage for the entire house and displays it on a digital output i have above my cooker, and it gives me daily, weekly, monthly and yearly report breakdowns of my usage.

That way i can compare my own results to the companies meter.

That is indeed awesome. Linky 2 your meter please... That sounds a heck of a lot better than the Save-A-Watt I was planning to buy.

The way those meters works is just they way they have always worked if they've had an old school analog meters on the display instead of digital ones I guarantee that 99,9999% of the american home owners wouldn't notice a thing. Roll
Insides are different as well of c.

Also that you have only a single power company on area doesn't mean a thing, you can still have another company that supplies you with power but the owner of the grid charges you for a "transfer fee" for "allowing" other company's electricity to be transferred to you.
Also everything up to meter belongs to power company, what happens after meter is up to you entirely.

Also the last time I checked waving a loaded gun on someone's face is "an unlawful aggression" no matter what state you are, nor are you allowed to shoot anyone on sight just because you have a sing at the gate.

According to the news clip, she put her hand on the meter and the power company employee pushed her hand, several times. That is legally "assault" and you can gun-tot because of it.

What you are asking for is to give the power company full monopolistic control and allow them to dictate whatever terms they please.

I am asking for the ability to serve only select customers that agree to my terms of service.
It would only be a monopoly if there no other power company would be ALLOWED to operate in the area.
If such a monopoly actually exists, THAT monopoly should be broken.

Look up "natural monopoly". Costs to enter the market may be high enough that it can be impractical for competition to exist. (Such as the former Ma Bell.) In those cases the government normally steps in and regulates the industry/utility to prevent (well, limit) monopolistic abuse.

Even so, most states have a Public Utilities Commission to regulate power, gas, water, etc., since they're such a critical component to civilization and because they often need special rights to operate in, over, and under public and private land. I doubt the homeowner had the legal right to prevent the power company representative from changing out the meter.

But, yeah, redneck/stupidity 1, logic/rule_of_law: 0
