After reading this thread:

https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=137718&find=unread

I am entirely disappointed with this decision by CCP to alter SD mechanics to those stated in the thread above.
Why is there a redundant function in the game?
Just remove SD, it is no longer needed.

If brute force isn't working, you're just not using enough.

Please Note: Any advice given comes with the caveat that nothing will be suitable for every situation.

So why don't you go post in that thread, instead of creating yet another redundant thread?

You are wrong. With bubbles, warp scramblers and other mechanics available in the game an enemy fleet can hold your pilot in the spot or system indefinitely. That is why the Self Destruct mechanic was introduced, it was not put into the game to deny a kill mail or loot, it was added so you don't have to be stuck in J100999 if I set your pod/ship on "Keep 1km distance" and turn on the large bubble and then go afk to watch the 3hour long Dark Knight Rises. This solution is the best possible one, it provides proof that an engagement has occurred and if for some reason you are being griefed during or after the said engagement you still have the option to go to Jita.

Removed SD will create a problem in the following scenarions:

-Bubbled/Scrammed/Pointed and held in place
-Stuck in a w-space system without probes or any other way of getting out.

Removing SD would also prevent people from disposing of systemlocked assets.

The amount of butthurt generated from these threads is going to be epic. We are going to need more preparation h to cover all the chafing that is going to happen.

Assets you can`t get out due to mass restriction. Think of a freighter trying to leave to hisec in a C1.

Bob Artis, you will be missed.

And also assets that are in your POS that you can't get out while rapecaged.

Your ships in the SHA, and all the stuff you have in the CHA can be self-destructed to deny invaders loot. Happened to Team Pizza once while invading some Legion of xxDeathxx d-bags who were there to farm.

Luckily, all the wrecks stay for two hours. I made off with a couple bill in loot. I say *I* because I totally ninja'd all of it since no one ever checks fleet loot.

So my idea doesn't sound so stupid after all.

SD was never meant to be a way of refusing killmail or loot.

It was meant to prevent being trapped such as getting lost in a wormhole or having a pirate hold your pod for an infinite amount of time until you pay him.

Fun fact, self destruct existed before wormholes.

Because you may do what you want with your possessions in EVE, and that includes destroying them.

I disagree with SD dropping loot. If you can survive long enough to blow up your own ship, you should get to deny them loot. The killmail should be generated, though.
