mining mini game

So i heard that CCP wants to make mining a mini game and i though that sounds cool to me...

So lets look at an asteroid... its just not made out of one mineral.. Usually there are deposits of the good stuff and the rest is filler... (the good stuff is mish mashed mixed between layers of the filler)

What I envision is when you target and scan an asteroid you get this pop up screen that shows where the best of the minerals are in that rock...

Now you have setting on the mining laser/strip miner that can go from high efficiency (basically cutting threw the sundry rock)

and then you have high yield (a lower intensity beam that is better for collecting the actual mineral like veldspar)

There is an automatic switch that you can choose (like automatic transmission)

and then there is a manual switch (like a manual transmission)

Now if you are active and switch using manual you get better quality minerals and can get threw the rock faster...

But if you select automatic you have a lower efficiency...

What this would do is benefit miners who are paying attention but still allow those who choose to do semi afk mining the ability to do so but at a lesser efficacy...

if that's the case i'll stop mining. if i have to put that much attention in to it i'll go ratting for more isk/hour.

turning mining into a minigame doesn't mean turning it into an fps. What about letting exotic dancers popup when you deplete the magic roid and make a strip for you which no one else can see? lol

ehm..... exotic dancers female plz

you could still set it for auto matic and you get the same yeild as you do now...

but if you are active you can do the mini game and pull in higher results...

eve should payout higher for being active over afk right?

nope; drone boats and missions.

just face it, there's no difference between hitting f1 on an asteroid and waiting as there is to hitting f1 on a rat and waiting for it to pop.

actually there is a big difference... pull up tactical view and if you are active you can tell which targets to attack first with your drones... thus increasing thier efficiancy... same thing with triggers in missions...

fact is if you are afk you can get it done but you are much faster if paying attention.

Except where that falls down is:

ATK missioning people get better isk/hr rates, because they don't have to super tank their ships, so they have higher DPS, so clear them faster.

ATK should always do better than AFK.

indeed and should that not be the same with mining...

but currently its pretty much the same isk/hour being semi afk and being active...

all i am saying is it should pay off being active and if you are going to make it active a small mini game to make it interesting would be fun...

and if they did do a mini game i would like the one mentioned in the op...

give you the option to play it or not...

and that is what i like about eve is options...

and how's that different from opening an asteroid scanner window and picking the bigger asteroids first?

mining isn't any less of an afk activity than combat is.

I'd need to see how CCP's ring mining business will turn out before making any comments on how the current mining system can be improved. But the general idea behind your suggestion has a lot of merit. Mining is dead boring anyway... even if you pay attention to what you're doing. Making it a more interesting experience while providing more rewards for people who are willing to put in the effort can only be a good thing.

yes.

which missile you choose to use when you fire it... all those things can affect damage output...

so yes by manual fire you do increase your damage...

Anything that distract player from monitoring local or d-scan is generally a bad idea.

You mean... like mining crystals? If you use wrong crystal mining yield is lower. If you use for example veldspar mining crystal to mine veldspar results in higher mining yield. Never heard of those... Wait a minute!

Actually you could lose DPS due to lag and due to how the server only processes messages/events once a second. If your launchers are on auto-repeat, the server will fire your missiles every 2.5 seconds (made up number.) If you're manually pressing F1, then your missiles may only fire once every 3 seconds on average.

OTOH, for low RoF guns, manually picking the time to fire can make a big difference.

except reloading costs you 10 seconds of dps time, so it lowers your damage by choosing which missile to fire rather than just mindlessly pressing f1 then going to make a cup of tea while your ship automatically repeatedly fires at the refined asteroid... i mean enemy ship.

With Missiles, if you're a long way away from your target, Salvo counting becomes important, to avoid wasting DPS on ships.

No point firing 4 salvos at it, when 2 will take care of business.

(Yes, I know, I know, short cycling on asteroids is similar. But you need to be at the keyboard for that.)

Just say no to mario party mini game mining exersizes.
I don't mine new mining like ring mining that is more dangerous and requires more attention but leave basic mining alone.
....unless you agree to tape your eyeballs to the screen for the whole length of time you are running PI or a manufacuring job.

  - remove the cloaked from local; free intel is the real problem, not  "afk" cloaking -

No, they don't want to make a mini-game. From what I gather the problem with mini-games is re-playability. A mining mini-game would become very tedious, very quickly. Semi-AFK mining is the best solution to what is intrinsically boring in any case.

Well seeing as most miners use more than one account. (Not that I've check, but at a Guess I would say at lease 2 hulks & Orca) How does the wonderfully mini game idea effect the multiboxer?

CCP's been pushing people to multibox forever, bringing out a mini game that makes that impossible seems somewhat ********. I know, MMO make friends blah blah. Doesn't change the fact that a lot of players are out there with 3+ accounts emptying belts.

Or are CCP happy to increase the yield of miners with mini games in exchange for a dropping of the 2nd and 3rd accounts?

Edit, Would just like to point out, that Mining is boring for a reason, it rewards you for a semi afk "ish" job. The reward is lower then other things such as missions because those take somewhat more attention. Though at some point around account 4 afking becomes impossible.

Don't ask about Italics, just tilt your head.

A mining game to increase yields is a brilliant idea particularly if it is hard to bot effectively but there lies the problem botters will troll this idea as much as they can because they want to continue farming isk 23/7.
