Any speculation concerning the mining barge changes announced for Inferno 1.2?

Yesterday the DEV blog discussed some minor moon mineral changes expanding alchemy. A month back some of the new mining ships were announced. I guess some of the smaller items ( maybe the barges prereqs part ) will be implemented sooner then later?

I don't know about anyone else but I am really looking forward to these changes. All mining barges available at skill 1? This will allow new miners to quickly reach a point where they can solo mine efficiently ( In a Retriever) or serve more specific needs of their corp. by use of the other units. My question is with the rebalancing of the ships are changes going to be made to the associated bonuses for barges and exhumers( I'd love to be out ice mining with 27k cargo) Big smile It will be interesting to see how the mining profession changes in the upcoming months

I'm pretty sure they mean t1 frigs like the condor and atron as it says Attack frigates, not assault frigates

and I haven't done any moon goo math, sounds like the alchemy will reduce pressure on tech, might see a bit of a price decrease, or it might not even be at the level where alchemy is viable to just buying tech.

as for the mining barge changes I'm assuming that will bring lowends back down, although goons might get bored of their wars and launch a barge-a-geddon like has never been seen

Correct. "Executioner, Condor, Atron, Slasher: role dedicated to fast interception with weapon systems that support it – in order, energy turrets, missiles, hybrid turrets, projectile turrets."

Those are the "attack frigates." I know it's a bit confusing with the whole "assault ships" thing too, but that's how it is. IIRC they're referring to merlins, punishers, rifters, and whatever the "top tier" Gallente frigate is as something like "combat frigates" as well.

This change is going to be great.

Some miners will use the options CCP gave them. And they will likely be much safer for it.

The annoying carebear ones (ie don't want to change, want the game to change for them) will not adapt, and instead will continue to whine about getting ganked. At which point CCP can say "We tried to help you, HTFU."

I'm honestly too lazy to go back and check right now. But I seem to remember the mining barge changes were slated for winter.

They were, back when they were announced.

However, the ad says the changes are coming in August, so maybe CCP finished early (uh oh...).

no, ccp said they wanted the mining barges in before winter.

Yep this will be interesting. As a side note I was ganked in a retriever a few days ago. I managed to come out financially ahead after the gank. My total replacement cost was 11.5m including buying insurance. And I recovered 13m slavage and insurance from the gank. The ganker is the guy that lost out the most. The single biggest cost of a gank IMHO is the security status hit you take from doing a gank. It will prevent that toon from doing a lot of stuff at favorable rates until he grids sec status back up.
What isk value would you put on a sec status loss? If your toon is an industrialist the cost can be stagering depending on the size and scope of your operation.

But I side track. I will have to see what the new retrievers are like. If they can hold 27,000m3 of ore and out tank a current hulk that will be something indeed.

From what the way this Inferno 1.2 webpage I linked hints I guess they will be implementing the ship modifications and not the idea of shortening the trainning times like was stated in the previous DEV blog?

I think it'll be a boon to solo/WH/and ninja miners in general, for those operating with an orca or hauler, I wouldn't expect much would change. I personally run with an orca alt and mine in mission deadspace, so no reason to change over to something with more EHP (until such time as the local suiciders start scanning down targets), so I expect to be sticking with the hulk, although the bigger cargo hold of the retriever is tempting. Currently with a min/max setup between the drones and strippers gotta dump every cycle, might be nice to be able to skip one once in a while.

The changes are out on SiSi as the above link states... looks like jetcanning with a retriever will no longer be necessary.
Some nice strip mining bonuses too.
Hope these go a long way to help with the mineral shortages we'll soon be seeing as the drone poo hoardes start dwindling.
