good for me i keep the shotgun near by...
some fools thought it was funny to bang on my door at 2 in the morning while in the middle of my internet spaceship session....they got a loud reply of the shotgun's "cocking" mechanism and subsequently beat their high school track records as a result :D

thank god for the 2nd amendment :)

So somebody knocks on your door thus interrupting your gameplay and you respond by (Phallus)ing your shotgun? Did you even bother looking at who was there, you know, in case it might have been the cops or something.

I'm all for second amendment but that was just plain stupid.

when you live in a town laden with drunk college kids, violent ex felon bums, and a rising rate of armed home robberies, a shotgun is a good investment (along with all my other guns)

and if it was the police i would respond in the same fashion :D

either way i dont know what your living condition is maybe you live in Beverly hills or something where the cops set up base on every street corner to protect the wealthy, but out here we are on our own buddy, and loud and obnoxious bangs on the door at 2am isnt going to be a girl scout tryna sell me cookies ok?

and it wasnt just "kocking" it was both hands in fists banging repeatedly on a door at 2am... i would think that would startle anyone

Congratulations, you just describe average city USA World. Doesn't mean you need to be a paranoid and irresponsible gun owner ready to blast every damn thing that moves within 30' of your home.

Right-O, well at least you won't be around too long to inflict this stupidity on others.

And it could have been a neighbor who was escaping an armed burglar. This is why they invented peepholes. But hey, go on exercising your poor gun safety skills.

And if you must know, I live in Hicktown USA, right next to Average City USA. We have one Sheriff and one Deputy, and everyone owns a gun. Doesn't mean we're (phallus)ed and loaded every time there's a spooky sound.

Quote:

Lake County Sheriff's Office deputies shot and killed a man they assumed was an attempted murder suspect on Sunday, but they now know they shot the wrong man.

In the early-morning hours, deputies knocked on 26-year-old Andrew Lee Scott's door without identifying themselves as law enforcement officers. Scott answered the door with a gun in his hand.

"When we knocked on the door, the door opened and the occupant of that apartment was pointing a gun at deputies, and that's when we opened fire and killed him," Lt. John Herrell said. "Even though this subject is not the one we were looking for when he opened the door. He was pointing the gun at the deputy and if you put yourselves in the deputy's shoes. They were there to pick up someone who was wanted for an attempted homicide."

Still think answering the door with a shotgun is a good idea?

I live in canada, for about 6 years I lived in the pad part of the town I lived in, never saw any of this. I think a big part of it is that people are much more violent in the USA.

Lets stop the Americans are violent people view. Humans by nature are bleeping violent, guns or not. If a person wants to commit crimes and harm others they will do just that, be it with a gun, a knife, a car, or a baseball bat.

But on the main point I do agree, racking the shot gun sight unseen at some one pounding on your door is a little overkill.

For the record I am not some anti gun hippy, I currently have 3 rifles, 2 shotguns, 4 pistols, a Bow and arrows, and various knives in my bedroom alone. They are all tools that we as Americans are privileged to own, and a few people being irresponsible with them are the reason the government wants to take them from us all.

Just as an aside, this statement doesn't make much sense.
Lets just say nukes were covered by the second, wouldn't you go ahead and ban them when a few irresponsible individuals decided to wipe out a city or two?

I mean really you either have to get rid of all irresponsible people in the world or you have to make sure you don't put dangerous devices in the hands of irresponsible people, I know which of these is easier to implement.

It makes perfect sense to me.

A gun, a nuke, or an Apache helicopter, none of these things have ever killed a person with out some one controlling or using it to do so. Can bad people get a hold of them? Yes they can. Can military, law enforcement, and law abiding citizens get hold of them? Yes they can.

The problem occurs when you put in anti gun laws, you can not put in a law and expect it to affect criminals.... they already disregard and break your laws. So all you do is deny law abiding citizens the means to an equal self defense.

You cant get rid of stupid irresponsible people and criminals, and you cant get rid of every dangerous device that can potentially kill another person. Automobiles, kitchen knives, hammers, even pillows have all been tools used in homicides, and that is with cutting the list short.

Like every thing in life the issue seems stupidly simple at a quick glance "Just ban all guns", but also like every thing in life, things are never simple. Things are never cut and dry or black and white.

I feel bad for you Americans. At least here in Canada I can go see Batman without getting massacred by some lunatic. But hey, its good thing all those law-abiding citizens had the second amendment to back them up, amirite?

I suppose we have crazy pron starts though...
