FU guys. Supreme Commander (well, really Total Annihilation!) followed closely by Homeworld!

Loved Homeworld although Homeworld 2 sucked

Tal

Cataclysm didn't suck.

Who remembers endless tactics threads on the Homeworld forums?

Thanks a lot OP, even just thinking about playing SoaSE caused me to lose about 6 hours of my day.

If only I could utilization their crazy time-compression technology to get through work....

The Sandbox, you're playing it wrong!

To be honest... Not a lot, I don't think.

I'm not sure why people keep looking to other games to see what EVE could do. For instance, if we bowed to the most common arguments I hear, EVE would be prettier, have less politics and be a dogfighter. It also wouldn't EVE.

SoaSE was waaaaaay too strategically shallow to call it a good RTS.

The earlier Red Alerts are incredibly shallow by today's standards but they are still amongst the greatest. Same with the old Age of Empires.

Both were quite a bit deeper than SoaSE. It had minimalist economy management and combat tended to be decided by who had more ships. Frankly, the endgame was just boring. The only thing it had going for it was that it was pretty.

Siege tank, build as many of these as you can and its a win (thats dune 2 for ye).

But that doesn't mean soase isn't even shallower than that, atleast in dune 2 you had to keep an eye for ordos mindwashers and with the tools at hand in that game, keep away from sonic tanks from atreides (otherwise they slammed right through your battle tanks).

With soase, it's all about the biggest fleet. Give it bit of variation and ur set. Supreme commander does this kind of mass battling a whole lot better.
