Less is more - remove the overview?

Would removing the overview improve eve at all? Is too much information displayed into it? Is the overview relied on too much?

Maybe it would make battles more interesting and pilots would have to use their brains a little more rather than listening to a commander barking orders that they shoot pilots whose name begins with A or Z. Ships icons and names would still appear on the hud along with things like warp disruption bubbles etc.

It would make visual confirmation more of a feature in eve battlesI think. What tactics would be used without an overview? Plus it would increase the space on screen without any visual overview. Combat would be more measured I think and careful. Might make eve a better place even for players who like shooting npcs or mining rocks.

No, it would not. It would make doing even the most simple of things much more of a headache and it wouldn't make anything better at all. If you want to try out playing without the overview, try minimizing it for a week and see if the game is better without it.

Also, called targets will always be around, that's just how a coordinated effort works. But if all the FCs you've flown with simply call targets by names you're either a. Flying with giant single-ship fleets against similar single-ship fleets who are just duking it out, b. Just flying a simple DPS ship who is along for the ride and doesn't want anything more complicated, c. Flying with a bad FC, d. two or more of the above.

Try locking on to a frigate or a drone orbiting you at top speed like that.

Or playing with your brackets off.

Or getting any kind of visual confirmation of anything when there are a thousand ships on the field.

Sorry but while I get your intention...you should learn to program your overview propperly.

Suggest contacting help chat/channels/friends.

"OK men! With trying to reclaim our lost territory, all prior fights and planning have come down to this. Ready yourselves!

OK they are warping in, primary will be Tara Maroo in a hurricane!

Do your best to 'look at' the blob, then spin your screen until you find a ship that will let you 'look at' closer to the center of the blob.

She's in there somewhere, just take this time to find and lock her, I'll message the enemy FC and let them know we'all be ready to go in a couple minutes! This battle will certainly last for 6 or more hours with this super non abrasive targeting system! :DDDlel<3"

What the OP wants is to see battles where everyone shoots everyone, like in the trailers. For that matter, I do too. That would be far cooler.

What the OP will get is a mass exodus from fleet PVP as people get tired of not having useful information. FFS we're flying space ships in a star cluster thousands or millions of lightyears from Earth in clones of our bodies with neural enhancements embedded directly into our brains. Yet we should have a hard time targeting the correct ship?

Or you can just... uhm... I don't know... broadcast the primary?

However, mxzf nailed it - this would make even the simplest actions take longer and be that much more frustrating. I actually wouldn't mind a slightly less informative overview but your proposal really doesn't go into any specifics. Maybe flesh this one out in the F&I Forum before proposing it in the Assembly Hall.
