Low Sec Gate Cans Exploit essentially unenforcable by CCP

Floppie do us all a favor and take that ridiculous bottle out of your eye. You look stupid.

For the community, I'm just telling you what happened, this technique will cause you to bounce off the gate, regardless of the direction you approach it from. Also, last I heard this was an exploit, however, CCP's stand is that it is a function of how many cans there are.. go figure. I figure an enterprising and organized group could lay this pattern (and remove it) in under 3 minutes.

Hence my statement that this exploit is unenforceable by CCP. I wrote this post as a warning, so now your warned.

They enforce it i remember camping in tama and killing loads of pods and my corp at the time ditching loads of cans some with cap boosters and other bits, then a polaris frig shows and clears all of the corpses and the cans as dudes were saying we were creating lag so it does happend sometimes.

Cept that you can't anchor cans right next to a gate.

jimmyjam - I think the lag issue might be a product of the pattern itself. As a guess, I wonder if it's the code having to calculate where to place the incoming ship that causes the lag problem. It doesn't seem reasonable that cans/corpses in a system automatically cause lag.

Astroniomix - Yeah, the cans are not anchored. Don't have to be, who would pick them up if your getting shot at?

Have you even considered having an alt for scouting ahead of you? Everyone with a brain who lives in Low-sec/Null-sec uses scouts. Besides, it's easy, painless and worth the time it takes to manage two accounts.

Did the cans lag you out, or did the cans bump you?

Because you can petition one of those situations, not the other, and your OP said they bumped you, not lagged you out.

(And I can see no reason why the pattern would be the cause of lag instead of the number of items)

By the way, it's not causing "Lag" that's the issue, it's Lagging your client out when it tries to load grid that's illicit.

The whole cans/drones thing around gates, was about lag. (As Pipa Porto said.) That's why it was classed as an exploit. So far I'm not seeing lag as an issue here, just very poor photo/video skills.

Can't bounce off an unanchored can.

Low Sec pilots with valuable cargo's be warned. Cry

Pirate Corps and alliances are using an age old exploit to great affect and getting away with it daily. The ole drop secure cans at a gate to cause a ship bounce off the gate is effective and you can expect little reimbursement from CCP unless you have a filed exploit ticket that they actually look at and respond too while the cans are at the gate. Good luck with that Ugh

I suspect until this exploit is fixed, low sec safe transport of anything remotely valuable is now impossible EVEN in a shuttle oh yeah that includes your implants.. no reimbursement there either. While gate gun camping is a common tactic, this development takes away one of the few remaining ways pilots can get to a gate to jump, it reminds me of the heady days of the 15km gate warp, where players had to make insta bm's on the gate to avoid disaster. Well kiss those warp 0 jumps good bye, now any cheap ass pilot with a handful of small secure containers can effectively dump all this crap at a gate and gank away. All they need to do is be sure they pick the cans up before CCP gets around to looking at the gate, which can take days if you don't file a 'proper' ticket in the correct folder. Oh yeah forget about using screen shots to show this astonishing abuse, CCP doesn't take player submitted screens.

Current systems where this tactic is being used is Yaherer, probably others though this is the only one I know of atm.

You seem to be trollin' else you would answer the relevant posts in here:
Unanchored cans don't bump you, only lag is petitionable - and I seriously doubt that cans in a hauler drop next to the wreck, so you might want to reconsider visiting one of our camps and pay more attention to what is actually happening.

"While gate gun camping is a common tactic"

I have never known gate gun camping to be a common tactic. Ive never even seen someone sittin next to one of them. I camped one of them billboards once though. It never moved, Im guessing out of sheer fear that i would single shot it from my velators civilian railbeam.

Signatures wer cooler when we couldn't remove them completely.

This is in now way an exploit.

Please OP take a moment and think about what you just post. I'll help you be translating it:

But it goes so well with my very fine coat :(

Also, the troll monocle claims another victim.

Sorceror Majiir wrote:

It's only an exploit if CCP rules it to be an exploit. As I've yet to see such a ruling, I must conclude that the problem here isn't the cans, but your inability to deal with them.

My guess is op was asleep at the wheel and got a bad warp, then bounced off the stargate.
