Quote:
15:14:14 Combat Your group of Trauma Rage Assault Missile hits Asteroid (Veldspar), doing 0.0 damage.

That's what you get when you pew pew someone, in my case, a defenseless asteroid on SiSi. Now, in settings, under General Settings, there's a little option there called Simple Damage Notifications. With that checked, the log shows like this:

Quote:
15:14:46 Combat Group of Trauma Rage Assault Missile strikes Asteroid (Veldspar) for 0 damage

The only change is the omitting of the words 'Your', using 'for' instead of 'doing' and rounding up the damage numbers. Really justifies the setting doesn't it?

I propose to really make those notifications simpler, like:
Quote:
15:14:46 Combat You strike Asteroid (Veldspar) for 0 damage
15:14:46 Combat Hobgoblin II hits Asteroid (Veldspar) for 0 damage (for drones)

You really don't care for anything else. The name of the gun appearing in the notification is redundant since you know what you're firing at the target. Less means more. Huge notifications in the middle of the screen are just stupid. Make them contain less but more to the point text. Also, give me the possibility to move them around [1].

To be clear, these changes I'm proposing are for when the Simple notifications option is checked in the settings. When it's not, notifications should be as they are now.

If you're gonna post here thinking your idea is the greatest thing since bacon and that it will save EVE and possibly all humankind with it, you're gonna have a bad time.

I'd go for this, especially being able to move them. Having them in the middle of the screen can be a bit tricky in pvp or when you have another window open and they appear over it. Being able to shift them to the corner of the screen would be of great use.

WoW holds your hand until end game, and gives you a cookie whether you win or lose. EVE not only takes your cookie, but laughs at you for bringing one in the first place...

I'm pretty sure it also shortens "you (barely) miss foo", "you (place an excellent) hit (on) bar" "you (barely scratch) baz"

What about being able to just disable them, and use the combat log window? I have that open when I want to know damages anyway, as the mid-screen notifications get updated too fast and there's no history...

I use the log, but it's still a wall of text.

Yeah probably, I haven't had the patience to check each scenario.

Sure, why not. Move them around, disable them, make them customizable. Just give us options CCP!

those kind of notifications simply don't work for a game like eve. Fallout 1 had them since it was round based and it was fun to read. One single line for notifications of 20 parallel events is not enough... and the log viewer contains to much text to be useful in fight.

+1 for a notification system cleanup

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

The whole overview needs an overhaul to be honest, Damage Notifications are damn near pointless except to tell you when you've missed or damage is greatly reduced (due to range).

What I would find far more useful is if it showed E-War to the Right (where it currently does), then below Show Weapons and Drone icons stacked... then next to them the damage amount updated each cycle. If they simply colour coded Miss, Glancing, Normal, Critical that would allow with a simple glance to know if you need to change the range you're at.

With the pop-up of the Shield / Armour / Hull that shows up above that could display your current DPS

I mean really that is the only important information imo, don't care about having a life story of my shots in the middle of my screen overlaying often targets.

How about, instead of making minor changes to the wording, we have 'simple damage notifications' collate the damage into a readable format, instead of the silly spam we have now.

I suggest we have a damage readout that gives, per attacker/victim (instead of the current flood of messages), a running total of some of the following:

Damage total this second
Most recent hit damage
Average DPS this combat
Total Damage this combat
Most recent weapon and ammo (really - we can't tell what ammo they're using or even what kind of damage we're recieving?)

As is, the information given by the damage readouts is so cluttered and spammy, that it's virtually impossible to get information out of it.

I seem to remember this thread being posted before, and I am sure my response was my need to just turn the damn things off! I just watch the little bars under my target go red, that is enough for me.

What I find more frustrating is the fact that all combat notifications pop up one on top of the other, making it impossible to read most of the information. In a game where information is crucial, this seems like a terrible approach. They should separate offensive and defensive notifications so that I can see what kind of damage I'm dealing rather than it being buried under incoming damage.
