How much is too much?

I was reflecting on the Eve activities that I get up to.

I recently tried some station trading to try to bring in some low effort income. - Now I realise that Station Trading is NOT low effort. I then looked across all the other ISK making activities that I get up to with my 3 toons. - Here is a list:

Lvl4 Mission Running
Inter-Region Trading (myself and corp)
Station Trading (myself & corp)
Datacore selling (Corp)
PI (5 planets in total)
Scanning for mining sites
Mining

My question is, Am I trying to do too much?

That question can only be answered when you include RL in your evaluation.

Not really considering doing just 1 of those consistently is mind numbly boring. Hell all of them are tbh.

Too much? It depends how much spare time you have on your hands and how much you like it.

Well that is a point. I get about 1 or 2 hours "spare time" during the week, and about 3-4 hours on the weekends.

Also - I like to measure my "success" in eve by my wallet balance. Hence my choice of activities.

What i am doing is always having a set minimum amount of isk in wallet, usually 1.5b. My main income to cover this is lowsec exploration.

When i exceed this amount, i try out whatever i can:
PvP
Ratting (lowsec)
Gas mining (lowsec)
Mining (lowsec)
Station Trading (hisec!)
PI (just for fun and variety)

My measure of success is the fun i have while doing whatever i am doing. And the fallback wallet minimum helps so that i don't have to get involved in things i don't like, i.e. Mission Running.

May spare time is also 1-2h on weekdays, and 3-4h on weekends - sadly, i cannot participate in organized multiplayer operations due to this.

I've been a care-bear for the two years I've been playing and I only have about 300M in the wallet. I can't seem to get anything to pay out well for the time I have. Am I just doing it wrong? - Should I be willing to loose some ships and try some stuff in low-sec?

This.

My advice is don't obsess with ISK because then this game will turn into a second job. This usually happens to people who pay their accounts with PLEX. Then those 400m/account/month are like a bill or a mortgage which will make your gaming experience so sad.

I'm much happier since I don't think of ISK all the time. I just pay my account with real life money and enjoy EVE Online: want to do missions for fun? It's ok. Want to do a mining op with friends for relax and chat? Cool. Want to free roam lowsec and catch unaware pilots or just play cat and mouse games and lose some tens of millions? No problem :)

you only have 300mil in 2 years?

You are doing it wrong. And you are trying too hard doing it wrong. Perhaps focus or specialize on a couple things instead of doing "all" of them.

You have 3 characters, I suggest you divide their tasks as follow, this is not the only things you can do but given your available time, it's what I would do.

Example: Character A (combat), B (mining), C (hauling ***** and PI specialist)

Char-A: Runs incursions, yes, they pay out more than any lvl4 mission, and are relatively low risk. Your 3 year old character should be more than ready. Also run missions when incursions are unavailable. In addition, you can try exploration every now and then to mix things up and keep it fun. The later one is chance based for the most part so keep that in mind as you may not make a cent in 1-2hrs a day or make 300mil in 15 mins...

Char-B: Mines, anything, everything, semi-afk toon with semi passive income... Pick a quiet constellation or find an uninhabited class 1 WH and setup a small pos and mine expensive ores. One option is low risk, low income and will let you do everything else without paying much attention, the later one requires you to span D-scan for hostiles inside the W-Hole.

Char-C: Hauls and runs your PI network when hauling is not needed. Follows character C wherever he/she goes

Well obviously you also spend a lot of ISK then .. I haven't played a lot the past few months and now I only have around 1 billion .. but ships and stuff worth a manyfold of that.

That said, you don't play that much. "1 or 2 hours "spare time" during the week, and about 3-4 hours on the weekends" (is that per day or a weekly total) isn't a lot, I think most players spend a lot more time on earning ISK so that would explain. Still, say you'd earn 20 million an hour missioning (which is a low estimation) you could earn like 100 million a week/400 million a month just by doing that. So what do you spend it all on? PLEX? Ships? Expensive skillbooks?
