OPEN FLEET TO

Arrow Public
Arrow My Corporation
Arrow Based on Standings

Arrow Application requires approval

how often have we ever clicked 'requires approval'? The coding IS already there to prevent abuse. The system has been proven against griefing in it's current iteration.

The ability to 'spam local' with these sorts of adverts shouldn't be seen in a bad light. For myself i've always invited socially minded asteroid clearing technicians to share in fleet bonuses - costs me nothing, and gains me a potential ally, friend and perhaps recruit.

The advantages are:
(1) probably relatively easy to code in compared to other suggestions in this forum
(2) is a social networking idea and this game IS a mmog is it not?
(3) probably something everyone can benefit from, except maybe null sec folk

Are you saying we should be able to make fleets open to the public, or that we should take away the "requires approval" option, or both?

I was taking for granted that 'requiring approval' should be taken advantage of for this suggestion i'm making to add 'open fleet to public' tick box. How often do we ever tick that 'requires approval' when standings are currently mandatory if you're not in corporation/alliance? probably very rarely.

I'd like to make that a more useful function in the coding, having a synergy with public fleet invites, and this is a sandbox environment is it not?

Millita uses it all the time. Other than that, not too often.

In that case, I support this proposal.

Is that function very useful for militia type settings? Why would you want to disallow certain people accepting invites?

i think the best counter to "omg this will create spam in local!111" is that i tend to spam local with "anyone want free boosts" (etc) and i'd much rather it be searchable via fleet finder as a public fleet. Of course i'd take full advantage of that "requires approval" as a necessary and welcome (if little used in today's invite/blue only fleet adverts) option.

and think, people, this isn't exactly making it 'easier' for griefers is it? i mean, their usual targets are in high trafficked areas and very very untanked lazy afk botters. they know exactly where the ice belts are and once august 8th hits it's guaranteed all those botting macks are gonna be botting hulks. all maxed out for mining upgrades of course.

so yeah, eve is risk. HTFU. live a little, it's a game damnit and it (according to CCP) is a social engine. let's hold them to it.
