I had heard about an old (2005 or 2004 maybe?) situation where a player had ran an in-game ponzi scheme, then RMT'd the isk for something in the range of 100,000 pounds (British pounds, iirc). I learned about this in an article of some random gaming magazine where they interviewed the guy. From the article, it seemed like aside from the fact the guy RMT'd the money, his behavior was otherwise acceptable. I liked the idea of a game where the ToS allowed for scamming and such, and general douchebaggery.

Eventually I tried a 2-week trial, and on maybe my 8th or 9th day I was ratting in highsec in a destroyer and I killed a rat with a funny name, and it dropped a 300m snake implant. I figured I'd just have to keep playing then, if my luck was that good :)

I was looking for a spaceship game that was sort of like Wipeout in space, and for some reason eve was the closest thing I could find at the time. I promptly became addicted and abandoned my real life in favor of flying around in frigates all day.

ELITE the old computer game.

I used to play it on my commodore 64, then on the 286/386. One day I was looking to see if they had made an updated version of it and one of the sites I looked at described EvE as the new version of ELITE. So I gave it a try.

Any spelling, grammatical and punctuation errors are because frankly, I don't care!!

Maybe elite since it used arcard like gameplay. Elite II on the other hand is a beast well beyond eve.

Well I have been interested in EVE for a lot of years, but just couldn't get myself to pay a monthly sub for any game. In early 2011 I started to hear a lot about Dust 514. A highly tactical, FPS-MMO, in which death matters? It sounded so awesome I knew I had to play it, and I knew I didn't want to be space poor. So I finally signed up for EVE in summer of 2011, to get a headstart in Dust. Now I am totally hooked on internet spaceships.

Ironically my interest in Dust is waning very fast, we'll see how it looks at release, but I am here to stay in EVE.

I read the great scam and everything about that story was awesome.

If someone craps in your sandbox: 1. Light it on fire 2. Grab your shovel 3. Throw it back at them.

I used to play Freelancer. Heard about EVE through the multiplayer and decided to try it out. If you never played Freelancer it was pretty much like EVE Atari, but a lot of fun (and ironically like EVE, there was a lot of incomplete stuff in it).

EVE Never Fades

Way back, this vid impressed me so much Smile

It' still pretty awesome after all those years. Love the music.

Same here.. saw an article on a IT news website back in 05 (big fan of freelancer back then) and then the video.. had to order a grafics card to get playing and if I remember correctly bridged the time by playing Eve Never Fades for about a week nearly nonstop Bear

Well, many many years ago in a land far away a teacher told me when I was older I’d be holidaying on the moon or perhaps Mars & touring through the rings of Saturn…

He lied….

Blake Seven, Space 1999, Buck Rogers, Battlestar Gallactica, Star Wars, Space Invader, Asteroids etc. Asimovs Foundation books & many others..

Then the X3 series & now EVE ...

Waaay back in September 2003, I picked up a boxed edition, read the description, and bought it thinking it was a stand alone game. When I discovered it was an online mmo I thought...oh crap! If I knew it was an mmo I would have never bought it. Best mistake I've ever made purchasing a game!

My husband and I saw them in the store when the game launched 8 years ago and he asked if I wanted to try it, I said something to the effect of 'meh, spaceships, not a chance', he bought them anyway and I tried and have been playing on and off for 8 years.Smile
