Finally, after years of languishing as the worse of the plate line, Tech 2 armor plates will finally have a niche. They will sport a much larger buffer than Meta 4. The current changes are now on SiSi. Can we expect this change to be a harbinger of more change to come? Perhaps we can see other Tech 2 versions becoming more worthwhile such as ECM or Neuts?

For me the difference in armor points wasnt the reason for fitting RTT. It was the PG.

That is one of the main reasons for fitting any meta 4 over T2. It's not exclusive for the RTT.

I'm not a space expert but currently the armor bonus is the same on the meta 4 and T2, so there is no reason to use the T2.

Ever.

I believe Rolled Tungsten would still have an advantage in weight.

Still, it's a change long overdue.

I'd also like to see the other types of armor plate actually have some properly scaled advantages/disadvantages so that they got used instead of reprocessed. Perhaps a tiny bit of inherent resistance to one type of damage or the other and greater granularity in their weight penalties, both depending on the material the plate was constructed from.

Nah.

Ok, it'll crash some (but it has already done so anyway), but fitting space and less mass penalty will still be valuable. Look at meta-4 shield expanders — they sell like crazy even though T2 expanders provide better protection.

Ahaha at least the meta 4 may have a function when inventing the T2 modules. I love this change :0) For me, Meta 4 should be easier to fit but not surpass T2 strengths ue to the lack of training required for meta 4.

I always thought the RT plates were a little out of sync.

They'll need to change faction plates.

Other than the federation navy 1600mm which has the lowest mass(lower pg requirements would be good for this), the other

have no advantages over normal plates.

It's because they fixed the problem the wrong way. The problem was not that T2 was not good enough but that RT was too good.

Actually there is 1 reason to fit faction plates especially Fed Navy plates: they are the lightest. Do the facion plates get the same bouses the T2 plates do on Sisi??

I am 100% against this change (and said so in the original thread). The last thing we need is larger buffers.
