'Took up the free trial in the interest of tourism.

Still on the starter planet. So far it all feels a bit like a single player game with other players floating around on the periphery of things. At lvl 5 it's not too grindy yet. Where does it get bad? Once you leave the starter system?

After the starter areas, the game basically becomes a glorified lobby system with people popping in and out of instances. People got banned for exploring areas that weren't locked, and apparently playing the market is against the rules too. PvP was/probably still is imbalanced, world PvP non-extistant.

They took everything bad from WoW and slapped the Star Wars logo on it, the only thing that could make it worse would be if Jar Jar followed you around constantly.

and the game tanked. Finally disproving my theory I guess that you could slap the starwars logo on a bag of dogshit and it would sell.

EVE is like swimming on a beach in shark infested waters,  There is however a catch...  The EVE Beach you also have to wonder which fellow swimmer will try and eat you before the sharks.

i also agree, this game is wow with a starwars logo and less content/features. the subs are decreasing rapidly and EA is thinkin of eventually making it free to play.

i hope you didn't spend your money on more than a month's sub.

Well. I made it as far as level 7. Really love the story elements & cut scenes, but the constant grind quests and region clearing...I'd never sub for this and thankfully paid nothing. It's currently free without payment method setup required for levels 1-15.

WTB KoTOR 3. Standalone, offline play. :/

OP is right. They made a largely solo MMO. These games need to realize people want social interaction and a challenge. And that modern day gamer goofballs will warp to endgame content in minutes. So you have to concentrate on the journey.

I never understood the hate for WoW, not all of its players are bad.

However its effects on the MMO market are 100% the fault of investors, Investors want fast returns they do not want original niche games like EVE. Even though in the long term a niche MMO can be more successful.

Also licensed games make terrible MMO platforms so TOR is destine for a short life. in EVE they added Titans thinking they would be rare capital ships(hahahaha), Now in a Star Wars game you never could just add something like the titan in a setting where the biggest baddest spaceship on the block(that was not the Deathstar) is the Star Destroyer and hell a Drake could take one of those down and not even go below 75% shields if it ran EM hardeners.(but that is for another thread)

EVE is like swimming on a beach in shark infested waters,  There is however a catch...  The EVE Beach you also have to wonder which fellow swimmer will try and eat you before the sharks.

The way I hear it, the problem is, however, that TOR doesn´t HAVE any endgame content......

I said the same thing in STO beta. Every single MMO to come out in the last 8 years has had the exact same issue.

Signed up when it came out and created 2 lvl50 chars, one Assassin, one Jedi Knight. Turns out the game is pretty much a (very well done) single player game with team deathmatch arenas. It's a bit like playing Morrowind while having a Counterstrike add-on. It's fun, but doesn't justify the monthly fee.

I tried tons of MMOs over the years, nothing beats EVE in terms of depth and freedom.

Unsubscribed this month...

And yet they wall want to be the next WoW killer and they release a WoW-Clone with no end game.

So i tried it with a small group of friends. Group based cut scenes and dialogue are amusing. Yet they don't make up for the now obvious reality of : accept mission, grind, return to agent for more cut scene entertainment, find new agent only to have run the next mission.

I think i'd be more inclined to play this game regularly if it wasn't for the routine kill / collect / activate device circle.

Then there's the useless loot drops. Whose desc's clearly state 'this item is useless' but can be sold to a vendor. If it's useless why drop it?! Cynically i suspect there's a desire to fill up people's inventory as inventory size increases can be purchased with game-currency. Unless they're useful for crafting in later stages of the game that i've not happened upon yet.

when i left population was the problem and very little end game content. took hours to find groups took even longer to pvp, if you wherent ina big guild you couldnt do anthything even then it got boring fast and people left in there droves.
i remember there where about 200 servers every single one of them had a low population, people where screaming server merge server merge but ea said no server tranfers.

I tried to like that game.

As a lifelong, near-age 40 SW fan, I really, really did.

But..."profound meh" is the best I can say for it. It doesn't surprise me in the least that it appears to be going "urp" and falling over on its face.

WoW still does WoW better, believe it or not, so why wouldn't I/we just go play WoW if that's what we wanted?

Hell with it, I'm still holding out for (pre CU/NGE) SW: Gmu.

Star Wars: the Old Republic may not be EVE. But I'll take the sound of dual blaster-pistols over "NURVV CLAOKING NAOW!!!11oneone!!" any day of the week.

According to the homepage, they have two servers up, and are alpha stress-testing.

Derp, my bad, I meant pre-alpha stress testing, per the announcement on the site.

Finally uninstalled it and left Lucas Arts a polite note within their customer support ticket system expressing dissatisfaction over the constant grinding, even in the face of otherwise pleasant cut-scenes & storytelling elements. These story line cut-scenes were great and even better in groups with group participation.

I don't see why they didn't just make KotOR 3. That's essentially what this should be, isn't it?

A single player game with a multiplayer option.
