Eves Buddy Invite program,

Invite a buddy, get gametime or plex. Seems simple enough, but apparently not.

It only seems to count if they subscribe to the game in certain ways.

The fact that there is a record of you sending an invite? - Doesn't matter.

The fact that there is record of that invite being accepted -Doesn't matter.

The fact that records show the trial was activated? -Ditto.

The fact that there is a record that three days later, that trial moved up to a full subscription? -Doesn't matter.

So, let's review, shall we?

The simple terms were Invite -> Create account -> Account upgrades to subscription -> win!

The terms that were met?
Invite -> Yup

Friend created account using your invite? -> Yup

Friend handed over the monthly upgrade cost and subsctiption fee? ->Check indeed

Recieved Plex? -> Nope.

Why? Because they used Steam. NOT because they didn't upgrade, Not because they aren't a paying subscriber. NOT because they failed to use MY invite.

Because of how they purchased their time.

Is there something that is apparently buried in the ToS that states that Steam isn't eligable for the program? Yeah, if you look for it before sending the invite through the MASSIVE invite your friends button.

But the problem remains, Irregardless of HOW they entered their paying account status, the fact is they would have monthly continued to pay Eve.

TL;DR

The buddy program has a guideline that you need to follow, your "buddy" didn't follow the rules. No plex for you.

I could care less about the plex, it's the idea behind it.

It's bloody ludicrous to look at where they got the game client from to determine reward.

How is him using Steam stopping them from getting THEIR monthly fee? On what grounds does it make sense to use that as an excuse to nullify the reward program?

Rules are rules. If they didn't follow the rules specified on the Buddy Program, then it doesn't count.

Because Steam is a reseller with their own promotionals.

Don't ban me, bro!

Account was purchased non-promotional and Eve receives all monthly payments, not Steam.

Really, the question is, is it rational to lose three subscriptions that would have continued in perpetuity because one of them got the game client from somewhere other then Eve?

Did your buddy pay real monies to activate his account which included the 5 euro activation fee? Once that is done, plex shall be yours.

That's the argument. He did activate his account for the required fee. But because he got the game from Steam the PLEX offer is nullified even should he continue paying Eve monthly.

Answer from a GM:

Quote:
This is because in the past when STEAM CD-Keys were eligible for buddy invites, they were abused horribly, resulting in thousands of accounts being created using STEAM keys to get buddy rewards.

This has sadly resulted in us barring Steam CD-Keys from being used for buddy account activation.

Sigh. Good to see the f-ups of a few can affect the many.

Leads me to wonder, If Steam is such a screw up of a platform, and it does nothing but screw over potential new subscribers, why haven't Eve and Co. pulled their rights to resale?

Because the EVE software is free.

If by free you meant you purchase a game key from Steam, yeah.

EVE software is free. It's not CCP's fault that people pay money for something you can get for free.

Granted that someone does end up paying money for it, but why pay real money when you can download the software for free & gank/steal your way to free account activation P

It doesn't change the fact that the EVE software is free.
