PvE Loki for Ratting in the Drone Regions

At the moment I am much better trained for a Loki than a Tengu (T2 shield tank, ACs, and minmat cruiser V opposed to T1 missiles and cald cruisers 3). For hordes and belt rats, is the tengu that much better for the job that it justifies double the training time (and that is to sit in the hull not even for good missile skills)?

Thanks!!

easy... fit for omni tank and use EM ammunition.

also i would recomend a speedy afterburner fit so you can speed tank the big rats.
if your without drones then take out the figates first!!!

however i will also add that the tengu would be alot better at running hordes simply because of its tank and its range

Thanks so much for the reply (us blues gotta stick together eh?)! Just how much better is the Tengu than the Loki? As I stated in the OP, I'm pretty much ready to fly a Loki relatively well (minus subsystems and a few other required skills). To SIT in a Tengu would be an extra 19 days over what a Loki would be and on TOP of that I would still need to train T2 Heavies/HAMs and assorted missile support skills.

Ugh What I'm trying to get at is, "Is the the Tengu that much better than the Loki that it warrants the extra 19 days + many more for missiles and missile support?" I just wanna have something that can rat more efficiently than my meta 3 launcher drake.

Hi,

yes, it is far better and also less work to fly.
But i would still suggest you start with the loki, earn some ISK while you skill for the tengu. You really need to have a mix of V and IV missille skills for it. As well as T2 'rage' missilles.

I am not old, just bitter.

Having come from mainly Guristas/serpentis space i can honestly say: Drone regions are f**king terrible for ratting. The Isk/hour is below trash. no faction drops. You can easily make 300m-1b per faction module in guris space but not in drone space. Couple that with the fact that these are among the most difficult rats to tank against in eve, suddenly you have an issue.

Mostly only armor tanking amarr ships can take drone hordes with ease. Speed tanking an ishtar is about as close to 'easily' doing them as i could get. I personally just don't think they are worth the effort. Back to ninja ratting, oh boy.

the only 'real' difference between the tengu and loki is range. when i run lvl4s in my tengu, i just orbit the next best wreck, gate or w/e and work through the room until the mission is done, no matter how far away the rats are. in contrast, even the best loki AC fit will only have ~30ish km falloff, so you have to get closer than 10-15km for full dps (which not only costs time but also puts more stress on your tank).

I should buy an Ishtar.

I see what you did there, Mael :)

In short, use the right tool for the job. Which in the case of Drone Hordes, means either a Thanatos or dual-boxing RR Domis/Nightmares/similar high dps ranged fits.

Anything less, and the bounty ticks are pretty bad. I use a pair of Domis and get 30m ticks. Salvage is worth another 30-40m an hour.

Solo'ing Hordes in a T3 is perfectly do-able. But then, you can solo a Level 5 mission in an Assault Frigate. It's just not done for anything other than sh*ts & giggles or from boredom.

Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

i just fitted a loki in EFT and you should be fine in most sites. just remember to use an AB to keep your speed up and you should be able to trasversial tank most of the site.

also its worth it to faction fit it, put a full faction tank and a C-type large shield booster on there and your damm near invincible.
