Busy at work and getting slightly bored with devs still belatedly fixing the core spaceship game. Give me that SciFi simulator and I'll log in more. I could probably even persuade more people to play and line CCP's pockets What?

I know this might seem curious for you but actually some people don't live in their mom's basement and actually have a life. This time of year is the best for some vacations in family or friends.

You should give it a try some time Lol

So I see people say numbers are up and a few posts later, numbers are down. Anyone care to post some evidence to support what they are saying?

PCUs are heading upwards again, and I haven't seen them publish any numbers to suggest that the number of subs are going down. Do you have a link?

My main got banned for a week; the game became a lot less interesting for everyone. Fear not - I'll be back soon.

Could you please inform the great brittish weather of this phenominom known as "summer"

I have had 7 weeks of sunshine up here in scotland (technically a drought in fact), Britain isn't just the home counties you know.

MMOdata.net reports 376k subs as the all time high, with a current number of 361K. The webmaster claims to get the numbers from CCP themselves.

The PCU's *are* up today. That gives me hope.

It's possible a chunk of those players are off EVE to watch the ATX.

I just logged in and it showed 47000 pilots online and MMOdata.net shows 376k subscriptions. If this is the death of an MMO its a pretty popular death.

You asked me once, what was in Room 101. I told you that you knew the answer already. Everyone knows it. The thing that is in Room 101 is the worst thing in the world.

http://eve-offline.net/?server=tranquility - The highest today has been 43k. And the graph is now too starting to show a down trend ♥

I wonder how many have unsubbed due to the blatantly stupid "Unified Interface".

Also, for being called "Inferno", I have not noticed something expecially hot about more pew pew and explosions.

Only stuff going on is Delve and that's not caused by any unique Inferno feature being used.

And Eve isn't exclusively played by Brits from England (who are said to be found somewhere in Spain, mimicking beer-soaked lobsters during this time of the year...).

Read the lore to understand (one of) the reason(s) behind "Inferno".

And back when people were free to ally with everyone,
the "ships killed in the last 24h" statistics showed huge orange dots all over empire.
Not just spread, but covering it.

That worked out greatly, tbh ... too bad they took that out for the sake of "meaningful wars",
although most people don't seem to give a crap about that and just wanna fight.
(i base that on the fact that people were fighting a LOT before CCP changed the ally system)

Maybe i should check the map again. ^^

US power outage affected three million customers the week of July 4th. Because the storm that caused it was unexpected, repair crews weren't on standby and so the outage lasted a week or so for many people.

Also, whine all you want, *you* need the US for everything from security to server population. ;-)

It is one of three things, or a combination of them:

1. Numbers are down on a temporary basis because of numerous real life distractions/ economics that will pass and numbers will return to the 50k-ish peaks.

2. A number of people have become fed up with the direction of the game that CCP is allowing its developers to take it, and unsubbed all or many of their accounts in protest (I have. This is my only paying account presently.) If and when subs drop to some threshold, CCP may clue in and the responsible parties will be removed from positions where they can damage the game, the damage reversed, and the subs might increase again if the protesters are satisfied.

3. There is a systemic problem with the game, be it the existing in-game mechanics, the meta-gaming, the stagnation of null, etc. (it really could be a ton of systemic factors), and people are bored with the game and have left permanently. This could be a huge problem if true.

I believe that it is mostly #2 with a bit of #1 and #3.

But regardless of what anyone posts on the forums, only CCP can understand the subscription numbers and what / if any problem they are having. And CCP is the only one that can fix it.

Frankly, I don't care that much these days.

Either there are subscription issues and CCP will fix them, or there are no sub issues.
If the former, then I may re-engage myself with the game.
If the latter, well then, eventually my ISK buffer for plexes runs out and I stop logging on.

Very nicely written.

I think the problem is more like an equal amount of #2 and #3, plus the fact that Eve Online has turned into Griefer Online.

This. Is not just EvE... every single game and/or forum I visit has declined in user amount. Apparently, RL is pretty nice this time of the year. Maybe we should go out there and join the fun.
