I cant help but think it is a real shame that Hydra and Outbreak are banned from the tourney - it`s a bit like Brazil not being at the world cup! I have been really looking forward to the tourney after being less active of late but from what I have seen so far it`s a bit dull, the TV stuff is not as good as previous years and the commentry is bad.

I'd challenge the point about the commentary being bad, i'd say its not as good as last year, but not bad. They need to put more of a focus on the match not the background, its clear this tournament is dumbed down so lets pretend metagaming and people aren't important and focus on the internet spaceships at hand.

Otherwise fully agree, the ancillary shield boosters have made good set ups even more monotonous than they have ever been and turned the more alternative set ups we might have seen in previous tournaments into a joke. Cyclone hulls are overused in AT8-9? So what do CCP do between shitposting in AT forum (I'm allowed to its not my job) they allow use of a module that arguably makes the Tech 1 Cyclone more potent than sleips of old and reduce its point cost, while simultaneously reducing the effectiveness of its counter - the curse. At least once we get to the 12 ship matches we might see something slightly different .

Yeah it sucks we don't have a defending champion, but I think there's been enough posting about that so w/e ;P

I think tourney might be better without ASB, but it's hard to say since we've only seen 6v6 so far.

Quite simply - **** HYDRA, they tried to cheat then shot their remaining credibility in the head by endlessly whining when they got caught then smugposting about how they would just go to another game and win there. If they hadnt inserted their heads firmly into their own rectums at the first opportunity i might have had some sympathy.

On the ASB side i dont think its going hold up once we hit the twelve man matches, the more dpsy six man setups were still able to grind it down so i dont think its going to make enough of a difference to matter that much.

I agree, shame on them for getting themselves excluded!

The TV stuff has improved with the additional speed, points and e-war info - Kudos to CCP for that.

Unfortunately the commentary is terrible - but it is that way in most sports or events with live commentators. IMO, let the sport speak for itself and mention the subtle or not-so-subtle events in the action. Inform the viewers and keep them in the action, but don't feel the need to fill every single moment with drivel. Often times the commentators miss on-screen action because they were too busy babbling about something else, just filling the airtime.

The ability to speak at length about nothing at all, just to fill the space, is terribly overrated.

I don't judge people by their race, religion, color, size, age, gender, or ethnicity. I judge them by their grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, clarity of expression, and logical consistency.

WAit a second, you're telling me Hydra and Outbreak aren't in the tournament this year? how did that happen since they won last year? This must have been an administration error - why in god's name didn't somebody post about it earlier so CCP could take the necessary steps to ensure their participation?!

re: the commentary - as the fights unfold, i've been wishing somebody was giving a play-by-play of some of the more interesting events rather than filling time until something that is blindingly obvious to the viewers watching the stream happens.

"Sacrileges are Amarrian, so normally armour tanked, and will generally use HAMS which have less range than HMLS which.. oh and it looks like a ship just exploded"

Other than that the standard has generally been fine - Ravi and Kil2 have been good, zastrow and telraven have been non-bad. MB3 is wearing his clownshoes and is desperately fumbling with the squirty flower mechanism in his pocket, perspiration beading on his forehead as he realises how far out of his comfort zone he is talking about spaceships.

I know everyone is tired of this discussion but I'm honestly amazed at how anyone can believe this version of events.

We tried to clarify some vague rules (i.e. had no intention of cheating), explained what we were doing and were pretty open (i.e. you can’t say we got “caught” when we never tried to hide how we practiced). This tournament meant a lot to us, knowing how closely we’d be watched this year you can’t think we would intentionally put ourselves in violation of any rules at the risk of being banned. That we were banned is, at best, a reflection of the tournament team's poor/selective communication policy.

I still don't know what happened to HYDRA, and i am just looking forward to seeing them next time. For now, we have a tournament to do. It is a shame we dont have a defending champion, but i guess we can still count PL as "the ones to beat" this year, and we've also seen a few alliances come out of the woodworks this time, which has always interested me.

TBH I wrote that post when i was trying and failing to get to sleep, was way more grumpy than i intended and not at all what i meant to mention. Apologies for confusing things with that.

The point i tried and failed to make was that regardless of the circumstances, like you said theres many different versions of what happened, you lost a lot of peoples sympathy, mine included, with bad forum behaviour and **** posting in the days after ccps initial response. Not all of it was from your members and not all of it was serious, I've been on these forums long enough to know what a cesspool it is at the best of times, but as far as i could see it really eroded what little goodwill you had to the point people didnt give a **** either way any more and just wanted you to shut the hell up.

Were they banned? I must have missed that in the forums. I do know that ccp said due to previous outcome of AT9, there would not be automatic entry, as for banned, that probably came under the affiliated alliance rules did it not?
