Im a noob....just sayin.

So I have a whole lot of Rifter's and am just starting out in FW. I'm finding Im running into a lot of boats I couldn't really take on even if I did have the skills (Both points and pilot). Destroyers and faction frigs. Very few T1 frigs. I don't want to give up on the Rifter yet and so was thinking I may try a fit designed to sit on the entry to a Plex so I can get up close and personal with those bloody arty Thrashers. I guess Im still going to die in a fire vs blaster or ac destroyers but worth a go anyway?

Good enough to have a go at long range destroyers and T2 frigs or should I forget it and move up to faction frigs. Any basic fitting mistakes?

You won't get close to any arty thrashers with an afterburner. You'll get kited all day every day. You'd need a MWD fit to get up close to them.

Meta gyros are horrendously expensive. Go t2 or flat t1.

You have no tank to speak of. Replace the nano with a 200 plate.

The metastasis adjuster is unnecessary as tracking-bonused 150s already track extremely well. Either armor or, without sacrificing speed/cost, falloff rigs.

As for flying it...You're correct in that there aren't too many solo T1 frigs out there. If you don't have a buddy then roaming in t1 frigs is hard (but not impossible by any means).

You should not pre-specify your ammo type unless you're giving it in EFT format so that it can be imported. You should carry some of everything so that you can use your damage type flexibility. Additionally, barrage (against Merlins or things you need to kite) and hail (against destroyers and larger) are pretty damn great.

The power diagnostic system is in-case you have bad fittings skills.

This is a very basic VERY cheap Rifter fitting. You use the tracking disruptor to stop kiting frigates such as: Arty Thrasher, Dramiel, Imperial navy Slicer, Cormorant etc. for being able to hit you.

This also stops the current trend of no skill 'tards who fit AB/Scram/Web and orbit at 7km from hitting you so effectively also.

The technique is to get close and do as much damage as you can. Use the MWD to get close in the first place and the scram to stay slow them down and there.

Once you get close, swap your tracking disruptor to a tracking speed script, this should seriously effect anyone with long range guns hitting you.

The following fit is what i default to, but i have perfect fitting skills:

[Rifter, Test]

Small Armor Repairer II
200mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I
Damage Control II

Limited 1MN MicroWarpdrive I
J5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler I
X5 Prototype Engine Enervator

So that's something to think about too.

Thanks for the reply. Great advice.

I was thinking that if I start at the entry to a plex I would starting up close if someone warps in. Under the guns. Kinda cheap but it would give me a fighting chance. would they still pull range before the web hits? The same logic led to the nano over the plate.

Hmmmm....so many options. Still I have about 30 rifters so I guess I can try a few.

I really like the tracking disrupter fit. I can fitting without the pds but not by much. Rigs to taste?

normally i would go with a damage control in my third low slow for extra EHP. The rigs, ideally, should be damage rigs. If you cant fit that try 125mm guns with 2x rigs as that is better dps than 150's with no rigs.

If you dont want damage rigs id advise an explosive resistance rig for your armor - however more than 1 or 2 armor rigs will slow you down too much.

That's a very specific situation you're talking about there...And if you're waiting for him to warp in on you, you don't know if he's an auto thrasher (which will shred you).
